1 Minutes of a Meeting of the 2 Northbrook Cares Subcommittee of the 3 Community Relations Commission 4 Northbrook, IL 5 Thursday, February 16, 2017 – 6:30pm 6 7 Present: Chair Bruce Doughty, Members Elliot Bruckman, Sharon Latek and Alice Lonoff 8 9 Others: Village Staff Liaison Erik Jensen 10 11 Welcome 12 13 Chair Doughty called the meeting to order at 6:32pm in the Terrace Room at Village Hall. 14 15 Hearing from the Audience 16 17 There was no audience. 18 19 Website Review 20 21 Chair Doughty stated that the primary purpose of tonight’s meeting was to review the proposed design 22 for the Northbrook Cares website and come up with the initial feedback for the website vendor. He 23 asked Liaison Jensen to discuss the grayscale design. 24 25 Liaison Jensen discussed the design elements and palette proposed by the vendor. 26 27 Member Latek stated she liked the initial design but looked forward to having a full design. She 28 suggested moving the “Need Help/In-Crisis” buttons to be next to the search bar. 29 30 Members Bruckman and Lonoff agreed. 31 32 Liaison Jensen stated he would submit the feedback to the vendor. 33 34 Member Lonoff asked if there was a logo for Northbrook Cares. 35 36 Liaison Jensen explained that there was not a formal logo but that the vendor would create a generic 37 one. 38 39 Member Latek suggested that the Subcommittee could hold a contest and get student submissions. 40 41 A brief conversation occurred on how that could be managed and the group agreed to look at it after 42 the upcoming “Exchange Group” (a group of social service agencies, houses of worship and school and 43 Village officials) Breakfast. 44 45 Chair Doughty asked if senior services could be added to the website later. 46 47 Liaison Jensen stated that the Subcommittee would be able to make content and architecture 48 modifications at any time. 49 50 Member Bruckman asked when the group could consider adding senior services. 51 52 Chair Doughty explained that he had previous conversations with a member of the Senior Services 53 Commission but this would most likely occur after the website goes live. 54 55 Member Lonoff stated she thought it was a good idea and looked forward to discussing it in the future. 56 57 Upcoming Events 58 59 Chair Doughty stated that the Subcommittee had previously discussed holding a breakfast to update the 60 Exchange Group on the Subcommittee’s activities. He suggested that the breakfast could be held in April 61 and focus on updating them on what the Subcommittee had done, including helping with the Text-A-Tip 62 program launch and working on the website. 63 64 The group held a brief discussion and agreed that the breakfast should be held in the near future. 65 66 Chair Doughty asked for potential times. 67 68 Member Bruckman mentioned that last year’s luncheon was held on a Friday and stated those would 69 work for him. 70 71 Member Latek also thought Fridays would be the best date. 72 73 After some discussion, the group agreed to hold the breakfast on Friday, April 21 at 7 a.m. contingent on 74 LEAD Executive Director Andy Duran’s availability. Liaison Jensen stated he would reach out to Mr. 75 Duran and confirm if he can attend. 76 77 Chair Doughty stated another meeting would most likely need to occur to plan the breakfast. After a 78 brief conversation, the group agreed to hold the next meeting on Thursday, March 16 at 6:30 p.m. 79 80 Adjournment 81 82 A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Member Bruckman, seconded by Member Latek.
