MINUTES OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY CONTROL COMMISSION VILLAGE OF NORTHBROOK September 20, 2012 Chairman Jeremy Reynolds called the EQC meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. in the Shermer Study of the Northbrook Village Hall, 1225 Cedar Lane. The following Members were in attendance: Chairman Jeremy Reynolds, Linda Masters, Fred Paul and Scott Robson. A full quorum was met. Also Present: Liaison Andrew Letson and Grace Rink. Members absent: Michael Beeftink and Brian Bruce. Sustainability Plan The Village is currently in the process of developing a joint sustainability plan with the Park District. Grace Rink from the Village’s consulting team was present and discussed with the group her role in the process. Ms. Rink is developing the background section of the sustainability plan and is gathering information about the sustainable practices already being conducted throughout the community. Ms. Rink stated that she is interested in gathering information from the Commission regarding their viewpoint on sustainability in the community and including some of the Commission’s successes in the plan. The group discussed some of the major projects that the Commission has undertaken including the Village Hall rain garden, the community gardens and green building incentives. The group also discussed some ideas to better promote sustainability in Northbrook such as better incorporating best management practices into stormwater projects, increasing the number of residential rain gardens in the community and increasing the number of community gardens. The group also discussed issues such as water conservation and incorporating recreational uses into stormwater detention facilities. Staff Liaison Letson informed the group that two community meetings will be held to discuss goals and strategies that will be incorporated into the plan. The first meeting will be on October 3rd at the Village Hall and the second on October 30th at the Leisure Center. In addition, a survey is being conducted to seek community feedback on issues such as water, transportation, community development, open space, energy and material resources.
