APPROVED MINUTES OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY CONTROL COMMISSION VILLAGE OF NORTHBROOK June 20, 2013 Chairman Jeremy Reynolds called the EQC meeting to order at 7:07 p.m. in the Shermer Study of the Northbrook Village Hall, 1225 Cedar Lane. The following Members were in attendance: Chairman Jeremy Reynolds, Sandra Garber, Linda Masters, Fred Paul, and Brian Bruce. A full quorum was met. Also Present: Liaison Andrew Letson, Members absent: Scott Robson. Minutes The minutes of the May 16, 2013 meeting were reviewed. Member Paul made a motion to approve the minutes as presented and was seconded by Member Garber. On a voice vote, the motion passed unanimously. Chairman’s Report Staff Liaison Letson provided a brief update on the progress of the sustainability plan. He stated that the consultant has received the Village’s most recent comments and staff is still awaiting the next draft. Citizen Concerns Hear from the Audience There were no members of the audience who wished to speak. Village The Commission discussed continuing maintenance of the Village Hall rain garden. Prior to the meeting the group placed mulch and removed weeds from the garden. Member Robson had sent an e-mail stating that he had some extra plants that he is willing to install over the weekend. Member Bruce volunteered to help. There was no news to report on the Update on the Techny Basin/Willow Festival Coordination agenda item. Member Beeftink stated that he is unable to attend the Farmers’ Market on June 26. Member Bruce said that he is willing to attend and represent the EQC if he does not have to work. Chairman Reynolds said that he may be able to help as well. Member Garber said she can help out for an hour or two as well. The Farmers’ Market had told Member Beeftink that Commissioners are expected to be present from 9am to 1pm and bring a pop up tent and a rain barrel. Staff Liaison Letson said that he would check to see if the Village had a tent that could be used and will coordinate with the Village Hall regarding the use of a rain barrel. New Business Member Bruce provided an update on the Community Garden and stated that the group will be part of the Historical Society’s upcoming garden walk. All of the participating gardens will be flower gardens with the exception of the Community Garden at Crestwood. In addition, the Northbrook Public Library contacted Member Bruce about bringing a class field trip to the Community Garden. Finally, Member Bruce stated that the enabling garden project is coming along well. Chairman Reynolds stated that Doug Gerleman had contacted him about a citizen grass roots group known as Go Green Northbrook. Chairman Reynolds thought it might be a good idea to bring him in to a future meeting to discuss Mr. Gerleman’s idea for the group and how they can coordinate with the EQC. Next Meeting The next regular meeting of the EQC will be held on July 18, 2013. Adjourn Member Bruce made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 7:45 p.m. The motion was seconded by Member Masters.
