Call to Order 36 Chairperson Slawson-Martens enlisted Commissioner Bosacoma as Student Chairperson for the evening. 37 Student Chairperson Bosacoma called the meeting to order in the Terrace Room of Village Hall, 1225 38 Cedar Lane, at 7:09 p.m. A quorum was present. 39 40 2. Welcome 41 Everyone was welcomed to tonight’s YC Meeting. 42 43 3. Approval of Meeting Minutes 44 Commissioner Christensen moved, seconded by Commissioner Moriello, to approve the YC meeting 45 minutes of March 16, 2016. On a voice vote, the motion unanimously carried. 46 47 48 4. Hear from the Audience Page 2 Minutes of the April 20, 2016 Youth Commission Meeting 1 There was no audience present. 2 3 5. 2015/2016 Upcoming Calendar of Events 4 a. 2016 Film Fest 5 Commissioner Whitlock stated that he had met with Kelly Durov of the Northbrook Public 6 Library to continue preparations for the event and that he has rerecruited 2 former 7 commissioners to serve as judges for the contest. 8 9 To date, 3 submissions have been received from students at Glenbrook South High School. 10 Students at North Shore Country Day school are expected to submits works as part of a class 11 project. 12 13 Commissioner Brodson indicated he would have liked to invited junior high students to be a part 14 of the film festival. 15 16 Commissioner Whitlock has reached out to Arlington Heights Public Library to encourage 17 submissions and learn how their film event is run. 18 19 Commissioner Whitlock is waiting to hear from the Northbrook Library about the best format 20 for compiling the submitted films for showing. 21 22 The event will be advertised in the May/June Library Newsletter. 23 24 Commissioner Whitlock intends to visit Glenbrook North and South High Schools to pitch the 25 event to more students. 26 27 6. Preparation of New Youth Commission Presentation 28 President Frum and Village Manager Nahrstadt have been invited and have confirmed attendance at 29 the May 18, 2016 meeting. 30 31 Chair Slawson-Martens stated that she prefers a simple, short presentation that details what the 32 commission has looked at/researched and what the recommendation for the future of the commission 33 should be. 34 35 It was noted that Trustee Israel should also be invited, as the Board Liaison to the commission. 36 37 Chair Slawson-Martens also preferred to have the presentation given by the students. 38 39 40 41 42 43 44 45 46 47 The commission reviewed and discussed the presentation slides: Page 3 Minutes of the April 20, 2016 Youth Commission Meeting 1 2 Task Definition 3 Research and Interviews 4 What We’ve Learned 5 Proposal for New Youth Commission Mission 6 - Mission 7 - Target Audience 8 - Desired Impact 9 - Process 10 11 Commissioners also considered what questions might be asked and discussed how best to respond. 12 13 Commissioners volunteered to present each of the slides at the meeting. 14 15 The commission agreed to start the May meeting at 6p.m. to celebrate the graduating seniors. The 16 presentation will take place at approximately 7p.m. 17 18 7. Old Business 19 No old business was discussed. 20 21 8. New Business 22 A motion was made by Commissioner Slawson-Martens, seconded by Commissioner Dinellli, to approve 23 spending for the graduating seniors’ gifts and refreshments in the amount of $100. On a voice vote, the 24 motion unanimously carried. 25 26 9. Next Meeting 27 The next YC meeting is scheduled for May 18, 2016. 28 29 10.
