Five Mile River Commission September 12, 2024 Meeting Minutes In attendance: Matt Marion (Chairman) John deRegt (Commissioner) Wim Jessup (Commissioner) Craig Jung (Commissioner) Garth Griffiths (Harbor Superintendent) Guest: Tim Moran, Darien The Five Mile River Commission commenced its regularly scheduled meeting at the Rowayton Community Center at 6:02 p.m. Chairman Marion and the Commission discussed the following items: (i) the process for updating the final 2024 Wait List; (ii) a recent inquiry by upriver residents regarding storm erosion of their riparian borders; (iii) the planned drone survey of the mooring field in the Five Mile River after the moorings are vacated in the late fall; (iv) an end of year audit of the mooring applications; (v) the recent submission of a modified dock application for a Rowayton dock; and (vi) the preparation of a draft budget for 2025 maintenance work related to Commission-owned buoys and navigation aids in the river. Last, the Commissioners discussed the FY 2024 results and, specifically, the lower number of mooring permittees in the river. The Commission then noted/discussed the following items in Harbor Superintendent Griffiths’ September report: (i) the relocation of certain 2024 mooring permittees in 2025; (ii) the recent sinking and recovery of a vessel in the Five Mile River; (iii) the December release of, and changes to the procedures for completing, the 2025 mooring applications; (iv) the end of season review of the mooring field, including potentially vacant moorings; (v) the refurbishment of the kayak trail for 2025; (vi) additional ‘No Wake’ signage to be added at the head of the river; (vii) the restoration of the second transient boater mooring for 2025; and (viii) website updates to reflect the recent change of harbor superintendents. With no further business, the Commission adjourned its meeting at 7:10. The Commission’s next scheduled meeting will be held on Thursday, October 17, 2024, commencing at 6:00 p.m. at Rowayton Community Center, 33 Highland Avenue, Norwalk, Ct.
