City of Norwalk Ad Hoc Grant Review Meeting Wednesday, January 16, 2013 5:30 p.m. – Room 231 Norwalk City Hall 125 East Avenue Norwalk, CT Committee Attendance: Fred Wilms, Tad Diesel, Richard McQuaid, and Jessica Fogg Staff Attendance: Robert Barron Call to Order Mr. McQuaid called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. and stated that this was an Ad hoc Committee formed to review grant requests from outside agencies for fiscal year 2013-14. Business The agencies, requests and presentation personnel that appeared before the committee: 1. Sexual Assault Crisis Center Presented by: Lynn Tusa Program request: $ 16,500 2. Elderhouse Presented by: Denise Cesareo Program request: $ 9,600 3. Norwalk Emergency Shelter Presented by: Nate Yordon Program request: $ 75,000 4. Domestic Violence Crisis Center Presented by: Rachelle Kucera Mehra Program request: $ 15,000 5. SW CT Mental Health Board Letter of introduction by: Lou Schulman Presented by: Kim O’Rielly Program request: $ 15,067 6. Carver Foundation of Norwalk, Inc. Presented by: Novelette Peterkin Program request: $ 55,000 7. Americares Free Clinic Presented by: Connie Bertkau and Karen Gottlieb Program request: $ 25,000 The Committee and Staff were present for all presentations except for Fred Wilms who arrived at 6:30 p.m. Each agency representative was thanked for their time and the conclusion of the presentations the Committee began its recommendation deliberations. The Committee’s recommendation included a request that the grant recipients be informed that the City of Norwalk expects that each agency requests funding from all of the municipalities that they serve. The recommended awards: Neon Administration, $0.00; Neon Summer Camp, $90,694; Neon Head Start, $0.00; Carver Foundation, $55,000; Senior Center, $336,080; Elderhouse, $9,972; and all others a 2% increase over prior year’s funding. Meeting adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
