City of Pekin PROCEEDINGS OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF PEKIN, ILLINOIS, HELD IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBERS OF CITY HALL 111 S. CAPITOL ST ON THURSDAY, JULY 24, 2025 AT 8:30 AM DENNIS SHORT, CHAIRMAN PRESIDING Call to Order Approve Agenda A motion was made by Commissioner Jaskiewicz to approve the agenda. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Mulvey, all approved. Approval of Minutes A motion was made by Commissioner Mulvey to approved the June 26th, 2025, meeting minutes. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Jaskiewciz, all approved. 3.1. Minutes from the June 26th, 2025, Meeting Public Input Consent Agenda A motion was made by Commissioner Jaskiewicz to receive and file these reports. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Mulvey, all approved. 5.1. PD - pre-employment credit check, $12.60 5.2. PD - Pre-employment exam, $806.77 Unfinished Business New Business 7.1. FD - Probationary Reports One firefighter is coming off probation and starting their paramedic class. A second firefighter is being coached while on probation. A third firefighter resigned and the department is looking to fill two openings for the fire  academy this fall. 7.2. PD - Probationary Reports The department's newest lateral hire is in the probationary phase and is doing well. 7.3. New attorney for the Commission The Commission's current attorney has resigned and recommended a new attorney who has experience with Commissions. The Commission's administrative assistant will send the Rules and Regulations to the new attorney for their review. Executive Session - Executive Session 5 ILCS 120/2 (c) Any Other Business to Come Before the Commission PD - DC Hutchinson will be retiring at the end of August. The department is looking to pre-hire for his position so he is able to help train his replacement. The department has an officer who has sustained a second injury to the same location. It is a substantial injury and the prognosis is not looking good. Chief is looking at the next meeting to bring forth a potential new way of testing to discuss with the Commission. FD - The department is expecting the promotion process to happen before the end of this calendar year. They will be looking at dates to present to the Commission. The current promotion process is in the contact, but the department may be looking at changing with the next contract. Adjourn
