I. Welcome and introductions – attending: Julie Spanos, Perry Martin and Lia
Stewart; staff attending: Pamela Anderson
II. Approval of minutes - no quorum
III. Old business
A. City of Pekin ADA Transition plan update – invite City staff for
update next meeting
B. City Link follow up – committee still interested in having Council
members participate in a public transportation exercise
IV. New business
A. Wellness day – April 27, 2017 – discussion on upcoming Wellness
day activities
B. Committee priorities – reviewed 2011 prioritization and discussed
moving forward with the following related to the Council charges for
this committee:
1. A) Adequate public and private services for maintaining
and improving the health and welfare of the disabled
persons. (Ideas may include the following – TTD service,
brail literature, channel 22 audio comments, sidewalks, bus
service, etc…)
Annual meetings with police, code
enforcement (2) and fire officials.
Continue to monitor bus transportation
system and meet with City Link
Invite City of Peoria committee to Pekin for
combined meeting

2. B) Adequate dissemination of information concerning the
interests, problems and affairs of disabled persons. (Ideas
may include the following – how can the City or any other
organization disseminate information better? - brail
literature, channel 22 audio comments, etc…)
Update on Channel 22, web site and
streaming of Council meetings
Develop a program for integration of people
that have experienced a stroke (self-
conscious in public)
Sensitivity training for the police (2), fire
department, EMT’s (2), hospital and
schools
3. C) Adequate community and individual activities to
stimulate and fulfill the interests of disabled persons.
(Ideas may include the following – working with the park
district/churches/hospital with programming ideas – what
would the programming ideas be? Who would be best to
administer the program? etc…)

4. D) To develop new ways to utilize the talents and resources
of disabled citizens. (What exists today to do this? How
can we improve on this? Issues within the community that
disabled citizens may be interested in assisting to solve?
etc…)
I also feel we need a means of notifying the
public of the existence of our committee
and the members on it so that they can
contact any of us with their concerns to
bring to our meetings. Possibly an article
in the Pekin Times about the committees
past accomplishments, current and future
goals or issues.
