Public Hearing Notice
The Committee on Law and Government of the Council of the City of Philadelphia will hold a Public
Hearing on Tuesday, February 5, 2019, at 10:00 AM, in Room 400, City Hall, to hear testimony on the
following items:
180820 An Ordinance providing for the submission to the qualified electors of the City of
Philadelphia of an amendment to The Philadelphia Home Rule Charter to change
certain gender specific references to gender neutral references, as approved by
Resolution of the City Council; fixing the date of a special election for such purpose;
prescribing the form of ballot question to be voted on; and, authorizing the appropriate
officers to publish notice and to make arrangements for the special election.
180943 An Ordinance amending Chapter 9-1100 of The Philadelphia Code, entitled "Fair
Practices Ordinance: Protections Against Unlawful Discrimination," by adding a new
section prohibiting retail establishments from refusing to accept cash as a form of
payment, all under certain terms and conditions.
190007 An Ordinance providing for the submission to the qualified electors of the City of
Philadelphia of an amendment to The Philadelphia Home Rule Charter establishing and
defining the responsibilities of the Office of Immigrant Affairs; fixing the date of a
special election for such purpose; prescribing the form of ballot questions to be voted
on; and authorizing the appropriate officers to publish notice and to make arrangements
for the special election.
180357 Resolution authorizing the Committee on Law and Government to hold hearings
regarding the use of THC screenings for people on probation or parole in Philadelphia.
180834 Resolution proposing an amendment to The Philadelphia Home Rule Charter to change
certain gender specific references (such as "councilman," "councilmen," and
"Councilmanic") to gender neutral references (such as "councilmember,"
"councilmembers," and "Council"); and providing for the submission of the proposed
amendment to the electors of Philadelphia.
190028 Resolution proposing an amendment to The Philadelphia Home Rule Charter to
provide for the creation of an Office of Immigrant Affairs, to provide for the powers
and duties of such Office, and to otherwise provide for incorporation of the Office into
the City government; and providing for the submission of the amendment to the electors
of Philadelphia.
Immediately following the public hearing, a meeting of the Committee on Law and Government, open to the
public, will be held to consider the action to be taken on the above listed items.
