Martin Luther King Recognition Task Force Minutes 4/23/2018 Meeting held on the Bayside Trail Members present: Councilor Ali, Blanca Santiago, Regina Phillips, Daniel Minter Members of the public present: George Rheault, Allison Hildreth Staff present: Troy Moon Councilor Ali called the meeting to order. He asked Troy about ownership of the trail. Troy indicated that the trail is City property. Daniel indicated that Bayside Trail is his first choice and the Amethyst Lot is his second choice. Blanca agreed with this and stated that Congress Square Park would be her third choice. She also indicated that it would be good to have some sort of decorative wall with a plaque along the trail. Regina indicated that the previous group suggested a statue that would be located on the trail behind what was then the DHS building. She adds that the trail is easy to access and nice to walk on. Daniel agreed and suggested the whole trail rather than a plaza would be good. It would be worthwhile to revisit the benches proposed earlier. If the whole trail is used it might be called the Martin Luther King Freedom Trail. Blanca made a motion that the Task Force recommend renaming the Bayside Trail to recognize Dr. King. Daniel seconded. All were in favor. Blanca moved that the Amethyst Lot be a second choice. Regina seconded. All in favor. Adjourn.
