Purpose Ugly Duckling Maine, in formal partnership with Pride Portland!, requests City review and approval for a permanent Pride sidewalk painting adjacent to Ugly Duckling in Portland's West End. The goal is to complete the project before the June 20, 2026 Pride Portland Parade as a visible, community-based contribution to Portland's celebration of equality, inclusion, and civic pride. Location The proposed location is the sidewalk immediately adjacent to Ugly Duckling Maine at 246 Danforth Street, near the Danforth Street and May Street intersection. Final footprint, placement, and dimensions should be confirmed in the field and approved by City staff. Design Intent The design will follow the general structure and Pride color language of the existing Congress Street Pride sidewalk treatment so the new installation feels consistent with Portland's public realm rather than commercial or ad hoc. Materials and Dimensions Proposed materials are durable exterior concrete/traffic-rated pavement paint and/or sealer suitable for pedestrian pavement, with final product, color specifications, surface preparation, and slip-resistance to be approved by City staff. Approximate proposed footprint: 6 ft wide x 24 ft long, approximately 144 sq ft, flush to the existing sidewalk surface. Height: 0 in. Weight: N/A. Maintenance and Safety Ugly Duckling will fund installation and reasonable maintenance/touch-ups. The installation will not include structures, excavation, sound, light, or above-grade elements.
