Call to Order / Roll Call
Dwayne Robinson, Chair, called the meeting to order at 6:06 p.m. La Tonia Burton, Secretary,
took the roll call, and a quorum was present.
1. Approval of Meeting Minutes
Motion: Rev. Debra Seward moved to approve the meeting minutes from December 16, 2024. Dr.
Wanita Mercer seconded the motion. The motion was unanimously approved by those present.

Consent Items

3. Submit all payment requests to MLK email address
4. The security meeting will be on January 8, 2025. Any concerned citizens should contact SAPD
and let their public relations office handle it.
5. Questions about security at the Youth Summit referred to the office of the Chief of Police.
6. Press Protocol is established: Chair, Vice Chair, and Communications Chair are designated to
address the press regarding general questions and comments; All other Chairs may limit
questions and answers to their specific events.
7. Application for Public Awards will close on January 9, 2025.
8. The scholarship application deadline is February 24, 2025. So far, there are 487 drafts and 7
completed submissions. The QR code will be available in March.
9. Commissioner Updates in order of the Roll Call
Discussion and Motion: All Commissioners present had the opportunity to discuss the updates and
progress of their committees. Detailed reports were emailed or given as hard copies to the secretary
to place in the secretary’s binder for record keeping.
10. Public Comment
Arlington Callies, son of Rev. Raymond Callies, Sr., discussed his book and film that is in the
preproduction phase.
Mario Obledo, San Antonio food bank, recognized Bishop Rosa Wilson for including the food
drive, Nourishing a Nation, in activities.
Beverly Watts Davis, from Westcare, encouraged businesses to participate and thanked the Chair
and Vice Chair for the stability and continuity of the Commission.

The meeting was called to order by Dr. Doshie Piper, Chair, at 12:00 pm. The roll call was taken
by Rev. Debra Seward, March Chair, and a quorum was present.
1. Approval of Meeting Minutes
Motion: None
2. Items for Briefing and Possible Action
Swearing-in of Commissioners postponed to July 18, 2025, at 10 am.
The commission will vote on the following themes to present to the public for choosing the theme
for March 2026.
1. Revise the Dream: Wake up, Speak out, Think ahead!
2. The Revolution of Love: Advancing justice, peace, and unity.
3. Diversity unites us. Love leads us. Action propels us.
The 2025 art contest will be held from September 18th through October 13th.

Commission Chair, Dr. Piper, requested that vendor portals be accessible in Spanish and other
languages.
Discussion about transportation support for the elderly and differently abled. Discussion about
potential VIA support and partnership with Tony G’s for shuttle service and the inclusion of VIA
link “Little Runners” on the march route.
Reviewed ongoing contracts: broadcasting, Trinity University MOU, and intellectual property-
SAAACAM.
Treasurer’s report moved to July 18, 2025.
3. Commissioner Updates in order of the Roll Call
Discussion and Motion: Each commissioner shared their name, role, and expectations. Common
themes included making the 2026 march the biggest and most inclusive ever and focusing on
equity, access and visibility for all of San Antonio.
The calendar and schedule of events were discussed through May 2026: Meetings will be held on
the 3rd Monday of each month, except for months with multiple meetings. All meetings will begin
at 6 pm. Executive meetings last 2 hours, and General meetings last an hour and a half. Meetings
will be held at the Claude Black Center unless otherwise noted.
4. Public Comment
We were welcomed by HEB Foundation Representative Meg Loomis.

Call to Order / Roll Call
The meeting was called to order by Dr. Doshie Piper, Chair, at 10:24 a.m. Rev. Debra Seward,
March Chair, took the roll call, and a quorum was present.
1. Approval of Meeting Minutes
Motion: None
2. Items for Briefing and Possible Action
Capital Improvement Update: $500,000 designated for a permanent stage due to annual
rental costs being the largest line item. Interim solution: Bexar County may be able to loan a stage
for the next two years.
Discussion: Trinity Lecture Series – discussed the $5,000 contribution request from Trinity
University. Several discussion points include:
1. Trinity expects MLK Commission to fund the full cost of the speaker
2. Trinity does not contribute to the MLK Commission
3. The lecture has been a part of the MLK Commission since 1994, and students
receive academic credit
Discussion was postponed until further notice. Commission Chair and Joe Frank will meet with
the Trinity Lecture Series Chair and other university staff.

Veterans’ Breakfast Proposal: request to make this a formal MLK Commission event to include
all military personnel, their families, and community leaders. The proposed time is 7:00 am as a
pre-March event.
3. Commissioner Updates in order of the Roll Call
Discussion and Motion: Continue working on the calendar of events for 2025 and 2026. Debrief
Session will be February 16, 2026, from 6pm to 8pm. Need to confirm dates for public award
nominations and Scholarship application period and review dates.
Fliers needed for art contest, youth summit, scholarship, and march.
The orientation will be on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at UIW Grosman Center; make-up
orientation will be on Sunday, January 11, 2026, from 2pm to 4pm.

5. Performers – 1pm
Edits made to the Volunteer and Vendor portals.

Budget Overview:
1. $14,000 rollover from 2024-2025
2. $300,000 expected from City of San Antonio – pending approval
3. Fundraising Goal $250,000
4. Budget Target $250,000
5. Actual Revenue in 2024 $279,000
a. $100,000 to SAAF for scholarships
b. $200,000 managed by MLK Commission
