SUBJECT: APPEARANCE COMMISSION/CASE SUBMITTAL –
STAFF REPORT
Staff offers the following comments on the cases scheduled for the March 13th Appearance
Commission meeting:
RESIDENTIAL REQUESTS
2013-008A (4411 Bobolink) Staff has a concern with the two different design styles and that a
portion of the first floor addition might be in a public utility easement. (The easement
locations on the site plan and the plat of survey do not match.) Staff requests that the
petitioner identify the roofing material for the roof areas that have slopes less than a
3/12 pitch.
2013-009A (9344 Drake) Staff has no objections with the overall design; however, staff requests
that the petitioner identify whether or not a first floor window will be replaced, since
the window represented in the elevation does not match the photo. In addition, a
second parking space will need to be added to the side of the garage or a variance will
need to be granted by the Zoning Board of Appeals to allow only one parking space for
the property.
2013-010A (9425 Hamlin) Staff has no objections with the design.
2013-011A (8551 Keystone) Staff has no objections with the overall design; however, it is
recommended that muntins be added to the new casement windows to have the new
glazing proportions coordinate with the existing windows, and corner boards be added
to the addition. Some impervious surface might need to be removed to facilitate the
addition and meet the maximum 50% lot coverage requirement.

2012-052A (9224 Karlov) Staff recommends that the architect field-verify the pitch of the existing
roof, and lower the pitch of the proposed roof to match existing.
COMMERCIAL REQUESTS
2013-012A (7601 Skokie) Staff has no objections with the overall design, the wall signs, and the
ground sign on Howard Street; however, the (1) pole sign must be moved onto the
property on Skokie Boulevard; (2) Mopar sign needs to be located outside of the 15-
foot sight distance triangle; (3) “we buy cars” sign must be removed; and (4) painted
wall sign facing Howard Street and the “Sherman” sign facing Skokie Boulevard must
be removed.
