The Board participated in the guided discussions based on three questions: 1. How can we build stronger networks and partnerships that include people and organizations of all cultures, faiths, and backgrounds? 2. How can we engage families and kids in welcoming everyone to the community? 3. How can we welcome and build relationships with our neighbors and fellow residents? Following the discussion the Board held a brief meeting. Call to Order - The meeting was called to order at 7:26 p.m. by Dr. Drachler, Chairman. Approval of Minutes – Minutes from the February meeting were reviewed and approved. Chair’s Report Dr. Drachler urged board members to RSVP for the upcoming Village “Boards and Commissions” dinner. Health Director’s Monthly Report – a copy of the report is attached Highlights included: • Marching against racism with the Morton Grove Mosque • Historic Women’s March in Washington D.C. on January 21st • Skokie Welcomes Everyone campaign • Supporting the Affordable Care Act with letters to Governor Rauner and Congress Dr. Counard discussed the state’s budget crisis and how it was presented by local elected officials at the Turning Point Town Hall. An overflowing crowd of community members, expressed grave concern about maintaining mental health, behavioral health and community support services in Illinois, and asked very tough questions and demanding answers. Ms. Urbanus asked how the Town Hall meeting was advertised in the community. Dr. Counard stated that she received an e-mail alert, but was not sure how else the event was advertised. She believed that information was posted at the Skokie Public Library, and likely other venues. Old Business: Dr. Counard reported that the updated dental referral sheet has been completed. A copy is attached. Many thanks again to Dr. Williams for persuading additional Skokie dentists to assist with providing care for people who do not have dental insurance. It makes a difference!
