Consumer Affairs Commission Minutes August 9, 2022 In attendance: Trustee Khoeun, Joanne Haeberlin, Anil Pillai, George Mathew, Jerry Kirkpatrick, Sam Pratap, Jeff Schvimer, Ted Lavine Davorka Kirincic, Justin Malone. Phone: Gary Merrill Excused: Howard Meyer, Biju Krishnan, Jennifer Engel Absent: Pouriya Soltani Meeting called to order at 6:31. Intro topic: If you knew your wish could not fail, what would you wish for. Minutes: It was moved by George and seconded by Jeff to accept minutes. Correction to spelling Khoeun on second page. Accepted. Farmers Market: No manager report. Joanne reported that she had checked with Nick Wyatt and it was not approved to invite BOY winners for a presence at a market or two. Sign up sheet for CAC members to attend market. August 14th is first redemption day for the loyalty cards. Discussed the possibility of a port-a-potty at the market. Discussed the need for map and/or list of vendors. Discussed the viability of the loyalty card program. Business of the Year: Deadline August 30. Nomination forms available on line, farmer’s market and on the table in the lobby. Approximately 40 businesses have been nominated. Questionnaires to be sent out the first week of September with a return date of September 22. Selection committee: Howard Meyer, Sam Pratap, Jeff Schvimer, Biju Krishnan, Davorka Kirincic, Trustee Khoeun. Meeting on September 29 at 7:00. Davorka to send copies of nomination forms and copies of questionnaires to selection committee. Presentation at Board meeting on October 17. Media Literacy Education: The piece of the project still to be worked on is a website containing information on who and how to contact to verify the veracity of what you are seeing/hearing. Jeff Schvimer and Michael Spikes are working on this. Miscellaneous: Discussed that consumer complaint issues received by the Village to be shared with the CAC. Brought up that Beat Meetings (Skokie Police Department) would be excellent for commission members to attend. Next meeting September 14. Meeting adjourned at 7:13 Joanne Haeberlin Chair

Miscellaneous Sec 2-812 Duties It shall be the duty of the Consumer Affairs Commission to coordinate consumer affairs activities, carry on educational activities on consumer matters, supervise the preparation of consumer affairs reports and recommend to the Mayor and the Board of Trustees ordinances, rules and regulations and methods of enforcement in relation to consumer affairs activities.
