Consumer Affairs Commission Minutes October 9, 2024 – 6:00pm | Meeting called to order by Biju Krishnan Attendance In Attendance: • Biju Krishnan, Chair • Ted Lavine • Anil Pillai • George Mathew • Howard Meyer • Jerry Kirkpatrick • Gary Merrill Village Staff: • Carol White Excused: • Pratap Sampat • Khem Khoeun, Trustee • Natalie Lopatkiewicz Minutes I. Meeting Called to Order The meeting was called to order at 6:00 PM. II. Approval of Minutes Ted Lavine motioned to approve the minutes from September 29, 2024. Gary Merrill seconded. The motion passed. III. Old Business There was no old business. IV. New Business Consumer Complaints o Carol White shared a police report that was issued after a person at a laundry mat had their clothes stuck in a machine and there was no maintenance number to contact. The Commission recommends laundry mats in Skokie list an emergency maintenance number for circumstances such as this. Business of the Year o Discussion took place regarding the Business of the Year. o Carol passed out six (6) forms that were completed by our nominees. The information will be used to choose the winner for 2024 and will be shared with new and existing businesses to provide helpful insight to be a successful small business owner. o Discussion took place on possibly adding a few more categories to the Business of the Year such as Librarian, Police Officer, and Firefighter of the Year. V. Public Comment There was no public comment. VI. Adjournment A motion to adjourn was made at 7:05 PM and was passed unanimously.
