VILLAGE OF SKOKIE
PERFORMING ARTS CENTER BOARD
Monday, November 14, 2022 7:00 P.M.
A REGULAR MEETING OF the Performing Arts Center Board was held at the North Shore Center for the
Performing Arts in Skokie, Illinois, on Monday, November 14, 2022.
CALL TO ORDER: The Regular Meeting was called to order at approximately 7:00 p.nr Barbara Reeder
made the motion to approve the Minutes. The motion was seconded by Barry Layfer. The Minutes were
then approved by the Board.
BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT: Terrence Guoiee; Janis Fine; Barry Layfer; Barbara Reeder; Rene Roy;
Andrea Siegel; Ann Tennes (Village staff liaison)
BOARD MEMBERS ABSENT: Dan Kelch; Norm Rosen (ex-officio)
OTHERS PRESENT: Executive Director Michael Pauken; Director of Marketing & Communications
Joseph Alaimo; Manager of Concerts/Marketing Assistant Merril! Miller; Business Manager Steph Shyrock;
John Siehi and H.R. Cook, Regional Vice Presidents, VenuWorks (via Phone)
OPERATIONS REPORT:
Pauken said they have begun the process of planning for his upcoming departure. Regional Vice-
Presidents for VenuWorks. John Siehl and H.R. Cook, spent a couple of days last week with him and other
fuli-time staff in Skokie to review current projects and issues. One or both of them is expected back again
after Thanksgiving. Pauken wii! also be training other local staff on the key recurring tasks that he does,
such as show settlements and Foundation bookkeeping.
CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS:
Pauken reported that bids are due for the entrance canopy renovation project on November 14. Work is
scheduled to begin in March.
The Village Board approved the contract for the new back-up power generator that supplies electricity to
emergency lights. Pauken said they await instaHation dates.
The Village also approved the contract for the replacement of the HVAC system serving the backstage
areas of the main theatre. Install dates for this project are pending.
PROGRAMMING/MARKETING:
Since the October PAC Board meeting the Center presented a successful performance by The Manhattan
Transfer with the Diva Jazz Orchestra that netted $12,358 across all revenue streams Upcoming shows
include Canadian Brass on November 18, Fleetwood Mask, a Tribute to Fleetwood Mac on November 19
and three performances of the Nutcracker on December 2 and 3.
The NSCPA Foundation is holding its annual benefit in association with the Fleetwood Mask performance.
Pauken said that 74 tickets have been sold so far.
Joe Alaimo and Memll Miller reported on marketing plans for these and other upcoming shows. New and
returning artists were reviewed for Board endorsement, including Herb Alpert & Lani Hatl, Steven Page (of
Barenaked Ladies), Amos Lee, Maria Bamford, Devon Allman/Donavan Frankenreiter, Bored Teachers,
Roger McGuinn and Local H.
Recent rental events have included a Keshet benefit with REO Speedwagon, a benefit event for Youth
Services of Glenview/Northbrook featuring Tributosaurus, a Fiiipino concert performance by Ben &Ben,
and a lecture/book signing by actor/author Tom Felton. Upcoming rental events include the State Ballet
Theatre of Ukraine performing Swan Lake on November 16, Music of the Baroque on November 20, a
dance competition on November 26, and the Chicago Gay Men's Chorus on December 4.
Music Theater Works performed Camelot in the North Theatre from October 20 through November 13 and
will run Irving Berlin's White Christmas in the main theatre from December 14 through January 1. Northlight
begins performances of Georgians and Kitty: Christmas at Pemberley on November 26.
FINANCIALS:
The financial statements through September 30,2022 reflect a net loss of $105,1 22, which is $28,523 worse
than budget. This Is an improvement on the YTD budget variance since August 31. The finandals do not include
$12,750 in grant income that was budgeted for September, but not received until November. This reduces the
budget variance further to $1 5,773.

Thanks and au revoirto Michael Pauken, who is leaving the Center on December 9 after 20 years as its
Executive Director.
ADJOURNMENT:
The meeting was adjourned at 7:53 p.m. after a motion by Barbara Reeder, a second by Janis Fine, and a
unanimous vote of all present.
