Skokie Public Arts Advisory Committee - Minutes When: Tuesday, April 16, 2024 Time: 6 p.m. Where: Skokie Village Hall, Conference Room A Present: Barbara Meyer (via Zoom), Nick Wyatt, Steve Bynum, John Maloof, Susie Lorge, Zach William and Tammy Finestone Agenda: I. Welcome/Introductions The meeting began at 6:03 p.m. Barb Meyer and Nick Wyatt welcomed everyone. II. 2024 Meetings Nick Wyatt noted that the Committee will continue to meet quarterly and the next meeting dates are July 16, 2024 and October 15, 2024. III. Public Art Programming Nick Wyatt presented the idea for the Jay Ryan Poster Give Away for residents. The committee all liked the idea and provided some feedback. IV. New Mural Locations Wyatt presented new mural locations and potential new muralists to the committee. The Committee first discussed the west wall at Soul Goods new store at 4024 Main Street. All agreed that this was a good location. Wyatt presented potential artist and the committee selected Liz Flores for this wall. As a backup, they liked Emmy Star Brown. Wyatt then presented the other potential walls at 7909 Lincoln Avenue (Former Roberts being converted to Hot Pot Restaurant), Niles Township Building (5255 Lincoln Avenue) and The BLVD South Wall (8025 Skokie Boulevard). The Committee all like this idea and asked to pursue muralist E. Lee for the BLVD wall and Cody Hudson for the Township Building. V. Existing Murals Maintenance or Replacement Wyatt discussed the need for the murals above Will’s Place and Village Inn to be repaired or replaced. The Committee discussed having a new muralist come in and paint a new mural. Wyatt will explore this option VI. Purchasing Sculpture Through Christie’s/Other Auction House Maloof presented the idea of buying sculptures through auction houses. The committee liked this idea and asked Maloof and Williams to continue to pursue this idea. VII. Landscape Architecture 387532 Maloof and Wyatt discussed landscape architecture as public art. The committee thought this idea was interesting and was worth exploring. They said it would need to be interactive, visible and well-designed. VIII. Other Items for discussion Meyer asked Wyatt to look into a mosaic artist for the viaducts under Skokie Boulevard south of Oakton and a mural at the Village Market Place on Dempster. IX. Adjourn 387532 Bird Machine Skokie Poster Giveaway Purpose: To raise awareness of the public art in Skokie and increase engagement on social media 1) Publish a short video on social media of Jay Ryan in the process of printing the Skokie posters and unveiling the finished product. Let residents know that these are a limited-edition print and are only available to win through the contest. Tell viewers to read SkokieNews that Tuesday for contest details and the first opportunity to win. 2) Reveal contest details in SkokieNews. a. Each day for a week, a picture of a close-up detail of one of Skokie’s pieces of public art will be shared on the Village’s social media channels. b. Each day, the first ten (10) people to email info@skokie.org and correctly identify either the name of the artwork or the location of the artwork in Skokie will win one of the limited-edition prints. 3) After seven (7) days of social media posts, the contest will end. 4) Anyone still interested in winning a copy of the poster can enter themselves in a raffle for the remaining prints by emailing a picture of themselves in front of their favorite piece of Skokie public art. EXAMPLE: 387532
