SKOKIE PUBLIC SAFETY COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES WEDNESDAY, MAY 19, 2021 PRESENT: Chairperson Paul Pitalis, Vice Chair Mark Penning, Trustee Edie Sue Sutker, Fire Chief Jeff Hoeflich, Director of Marketing and Communications Ann Tennes, Police Chief Brian Baker, Transportation Engineer Samantha Maximilian, Alicia Case, David Freireich, Paul Kruszynski, Dennis Rizo, Joel Reyes, Howard Rosenburg, Cornell Collins, Leslie Post-Weissinger, Melissa Villegas, Bryant Smith, Frank Ippolito, Edward McCarthy, Alex Chaparro, Amy L. Memis-Foler, Julian Levy, Karen Lise Sherman. EXCUSED: Marcie Claus, Deputy Chief Kathy Furgala, Kenneth Mantel, Linda Perlin, Director of Public Works Max Slankard, ABSENT: Daniel Fink, Jr., Earl Nicholas, Mitchell Kushner. CALL TO ORDER AND APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES Chairperson Paul Pitalis called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. The minutes of the April 21st meeting were approved. Members of the Human Relations Commission were also attending the meeting. POLICE USE OF FORCE DISCUSSION AND NEXT STEPS A discussion was led by Ann Tennes for the Public Safety Commission followed by review and comments of the first draft. Final thoughts from the group were noted by Ann for revisions to the Use of Force Policy Community Review. Six public comments were read into the record at various points during the meeting. Some time was spent discussing the next steps in the process. The revised draft recommendation will be posted on the village website by May 24th, with public comments invited through June 14th. Any public comments that are received will be reviewed at the next meeting. UNFINISHED BUSINESS None NEW BUSINESS None. ADJOURNMENT At 8:45 p.m. a motion was made to adjourn which was seconded and then passed unanimously.
