SKOKIE PUBLIC SAFETY COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 17, 2021 PRESENT: Chairperson Paul Pitalis, Director of Marketing and Communications Ann Tennes, Police Chief Brian Baker, Alicia Case, Marcie Claus, Cornell Collins, Leslie Post-Weissinger, Melissa Villegas, Deputy Fire Chief of Operations Nicholas C. Eschner. Trustee Alison Pure-Slovin, Trustee Edie Sue Sutker, Director of Engineering Russ Rietveld EXCUSED: Fire Chief Jeff Hoeflich, Senior Engineer Samantha Maximilian, Linda Perlin, Howard Rosenburg, Kenneth Mantel, Paul Kruszynski, Director of Public Works Max Slankard ABSENT: Frank Ippolito, Daniel Fink, Jr., Earl Nicholas, Mitchell Kushner, Vice Chair Mark Penning, Bryant Smith, Kevin Frampton, Julian Levy, Dennis Rizo, Edward McCarthy, Joel Reyes. CALL TO ORDER AND APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES Chairperson Paul Pitalis called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. The minutes of the October 20, 2021 meeting were approved. FIRE DEPARTMENT REPORT AND SEASONAL FIRE PREVENTION PRESENTATION The Fire Department report was presented by Deputy Chief Eschner. Calls this month are up 200 compared to this time last year. It was also noted that the Department recently obtained a new Engine and Stephen Jagman was promoted to Deputy Fire Chief of Administration. Members of the Fire Prevention Bureau gave a presentation on seasonal fire prevention. POLICE DEPARTMENT REPORT Chief Baker presented the Police Department report. It was noted Denise Franklin was promoted to Commander, the Department changed their reporting format to NIBRS and Phase 2 of the Co-Responder program was launched. Questions were answered about the Co-Responder program. ENGINEERING REPORT Russ Rietveld gave an update on current construction projects occurring in Skokie. UNFINISHED BUSINESS It was asked why the Fire Department sends an ambulance and fire engine when responding to calls. Deputy Chief Eschner explained it is due to the amount of equipment required to respond to calls and to ensure sufficient people on site to manage the equipment and incident. NEW BUSINESS None. ADJOURNMENT At 7:53 p.m. a motion was made to adjourn which was seconded and then passed unanimously.
