SKOKIE PUBLIC SAFETY COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 16, 2022 PRESENT: Chairperson Paul Pitalis, Vice Chair Mark Penning, Police Chief Brian Baker, Deputy Chief Nicholas Eschner, Fire Chief Jeff Hoeflich, Trustee Alison Pure-Slovin, Howard Rosenburg, Cornell Collins, Mitchell Kushner, Senior Engineer Samantha Maximilian EXCUSED: Frank Ippolito, Deputy Chief Stephen Jagman, Director of Public Works Max Slankard, Trustee Edie Sue Sutker, Linda Perlin, Mayha Syed, Kenneth Mantel, Leslie Post-Weissinger, Paul Kruszynski, Director of Engineering Russ Rietveld, Melissa Villegas, DC Jesse Barnes ABSENT: Daniel Fink, Edward McCarthy, Dennis Rizo, Bryant Smith, Marcie Claus CALL TO ORDER AND APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES Chairperson Pitalis called the meeting to order at 7:03 p.m. The minutes of the October 19th meeting were approved. FIRE DEPARTMENT REPORT Deputy Chief Nick Eschner introduced Tim Taylor with the Fire Prevention Bureau. Tim Taylor began his Fire Prevention Bureau and Community Risk Reduction presentation with telling us a little about himself. Tim Taylor has been a resident of Skokie for the last 25 years, he came from the City of Evanston’s Fire Department, and currently works under Deputy Chief Nick Eschner. Tim Taylor is the new Fire Prevention Specialist that will focus on public education, but they will also conduct fire inspections. QA discussion followed. POLICE DEPARTMENT REPORT Chief Brian Baker Barnes gave a rundown on the monthly report. Group A offenses is up 7%, Group B offenses is down 8%, and total Traffic enforcement is up 15% for the current period compared to the prior year. Chief Baker also updated the commission that Officer Oakley has been promoted to Commander. 55% of the department now has body worn cameras. QA discussion followed. ENGINEERING REPORT Samantha Maximilian reported on the ongoing construction projects in Skokie. Samantha Maximilian briefly mentioned the material shortage and the timelines of some Skokie projects being able to complete restoration before winter. QA discussion followed. UNFINISHED BUSINESS None. NEW BUSINESS Chair Paul Pitalis mentioned the missing ‘no left turn’ sign on the north side of Oakton street near the corner of Kostner. Samantha Maximilian explained this portion of Oakton is owned and maintained by Cook County. The engineering division will investigate and relay the missing sign information to the County to replace. ADJOURNMENT At 7:52 p.m. a motion was made to adjourn which was seconded and then passed unanimously.
