SKOKIE PUBLIC SAFETY COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 18, 2023 PRESENT: Police Chief Brian Baker, Cornell Collins, Deputy Chief Nicholas Eschner, Mitchell Kushner, Senior Engineer Samantha Maximilian, Vice Chair Mark Penning, Linda Perlin, Chairperson Paul Pitalis, Dennis Rizo, Howard Rosenburg, Trustee Edie Sue Sutker, Melissa Villegas EXCUSED: Frank Ippolito, Deputy Chief Stephen Jagman, Director of Public Works Max Slankard, Leslie Post-Weissinger, Director of Engineering Russ Rietveld, Fire Chief Jeff Hoeflich, Trustee Alison Pure-Slovin ABSENT: Daniel Fink, Bryant Smith, Mayha Syed, Marcie Claus, Paul Kruszynski CALL TO ORDER AND APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES Chairperson Pitalis called the meeting to order at 7:02 p.m. The minutes of the December 21st meeting were approved. FIRE DEPARTMENT REPORT Deputy Chief Eschner gave the Fire Department Report. Overall, there is a 4% call increase from last year, the busiest year by far. DC Eschner also gave a presentation on Technical Rescue Teams. There are specialized teams to support the overall mission of the department. The specialized teams include Technical Rescue, Hazardous Materials, and Dive/Water Rescue. An overview of each team was discussed. QA discussion followed. POLICE DEPARTMENT REPORT Chief Baker gave the Police Department Report, the 2022-year end numbers are being sent to the FBI and other reporting agencies. Crime and all offenses are up by 3%. However, violent crimes are down by 9%. The fatal car crash on Howard street and the robbery at Old Orchard Mall was discussed. QA discussion followed. ENGINEERING REPORT Samantha Maximilian gave the Engineering Report. QA discussion followed. UNFINISHED BUSINESS None NEW BUSINESS Chair Person stated there will be a new commissioner at the next Public Safety Meeting. ADJOURNMENT At 7:48 p.m. a motion was made to adjourn which was seconded and then passed unanimously.
