SKOKIE PUBLIC SAFETY COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES WEDNESDAY, APRIL 19, 2023 PRESENT: Police Chief Brian Baker, Deputy Chief Jesse Barnes, Fire Chief Jeff Hoeflich, Mitchell Kushner, Ibrahim Mansuri, Fred Moore, Vice Chair Mark Penning, Chairperson Paul Pitalis, Leslie Post-Weissinger, Dennis Rizo, Howard Rosenburg, Bryant Smith, Nicholas Vickers, Jeff Schvimer, Director of Engineering Russ Rietveld, Director of Public Works Max Slankard EXCUSED: Deputy Chief Nicholas Eschner, Deputy Chief Stephen Jagman, Paul Kruszynski, Kenneth Mantel, Senior Engineer Samantha Maximilian, Linda Perlin, Trustee Alison Pure-Slovin, Trustee Edie Sue Sutker, Melissa Villegas ABSENT: Marcie Claus, Cornell Collins, Scott Ford CALL TO ORDER AND APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES Chairperson Pitalis called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. The minutes of the March 15th meeting were approved. POLICE DEPARTMENT REPORT Chief Baker gave the Police Department Report. The Department recently completed updates to their Mission Statement and Values. QA discussion followed. FIRE DEPARTMENT REPORT Chief Hoeflich gave the Fire Department Report. The Department continues to fill vacancies and was also successful in obtaining a $375,000 grant towards the purchase of new Self Contained Breathing Apparatus(SCBA) equipment. QA discussion followed. ENGINEERING REPORT Russ Rietveld gave the Engineering Report. Mr. Rietveld also asked the commission for any known general public safety issues they are aware of within the Village for discussion in June in order to tailor future discussions/presentations around those topics. In addition, Mr. Rietveld presented the proposed Public Safety Overview and Recommended Tips that will be posted on a new section of the Village website. Feedback on the Recommended Tips to be discussed in June as well. QA discussion followed. UNFINISHED BUSINESS None. NEW BUSINESS None. ADJOURNMENT At 8:20 p.m. a motion was made to adjourn which was seconded and then passed unanimously.
