SKOKIE PUBLIC SAFETY COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 15, 2023 PRESENT: Connell Collins, Kimani Levy, Ibriham Mansuri, Fred Moore, Chairman Paul Pitalis, Leslie Post-Weissinger, Trustee Alison Pure-Slovin, Police Chief Brian Baker, Fire Chief Jeff Hoeflich, Paul Kruszynski, Mark Penning, Linda Perlin, Director of Engineering Rietveld, Russ (Staff Liaison), Doug Rocklin and Bryant Smith EXCUSED: Vice Chairman Melissa Villegas, Fire DC Op Nicholas Eschner, Senior Engineer Samantha Maximilian, Deputy Fire Chief Stephen Jagman, Director of Public Works Max Slankard, Max (Staff Liaison), Trustee Edie Sue Sutker, Marcie Claus, Howard Rosenberg, Mitchell Kushner, Dennis Rizo and Jeffrey Schvimer ABSENT: Scott Ford and Nicholas Vickers CALL TO ORDER AND APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES Chairperson Pitalis called the meeting to order at 7:01 p.m. The minutes of the October 18th meeting were approved. FIRE DEPARTMENT REPORT Chief Hoeflich gave the Fire Department Report. Call volumes are still up. Two new firefighters are currently at the fire academy and will be put on shift once that is completed. Launched an Explorer program for interested youth. QA discussion followed. POLICE DEPARTMENT REPORT Chief Baker gave the Police Department Report. Auto thefts are still the most prominent concern. Denise Franklin was recently promoted to Deputy Chief. Working on ILEAP reaccreditation. Police use of force review board finalizing 2022 report, but no concerns noted. Hired three new officers, going to academy in January. Many requests and incidents have occurred since the October 7th Hamas attack. QA discussion followed. Simone Wilson from Turning Point was a special guest to discuss Turning Point’s day to day operations and their work as a Mobile Response Team under the conversion of the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline to 988. ENGINEERING REPORT Russ Rietveld gave the Engineering Report. QA discussion followed. UNFINISHED BUSINESS None. NEW BUSINESS None. ADJOURNMENT At 7:57 p.m. a motion was made to adjourn which was seconded and then passed unanimously.
