SKOKIE PUBLIC SAFETY COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES TUESDAY, OCTOBER 15, 2024 PRESENT: Michael Anderson, Police Chief Jesse Barnes, Marcie Claus, Fire DC Op Nicholas Eschner, Paul Kruszynski, Ibriham Mansuri, Mark Penning, Director of Engineering Russ Rietveld, Vice Chairman Dennis Rizo, Howard Rosenburg and Jeffrey Schvimer EXCUSED: Deputy Chief Denise Franklin, Fire Chief Jeff Hoeflich, Deputy Fire Chief Stephen Jagman, Avron Kahn, Senior Engineer Samantha Maximilian, Fred Moore, Leslie Post-Weissinger, Deputy Chief John Oakley, Linda Perlin, Trustee Alison Pure-Slovin, Director of Public Works Max Slankard, Bryant Smith, Trustee Edie Sue Sutker and Chairman Melissa Villegas ABSENT: Connell Collins, Scott Ford, Kimani Levy and Paul Pitalis, CALL TO ORDER AND APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES Vice-chairperson Dennis Rizo called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. Quorum was established. A motion was made by Commissioner Rosenberg and seconded by Commissioner Mansuri and the minutes of the September 18th meeting were approved. POLICE DEPARTMENT REPORT Chief Barnes presented the Police Department September Report. Three officers recently completed their post academy in field training and three more officers recently graduated from the academy. Recruiting is ongoing for remaining vacancies. QA discussion followed. FIRE DEPARTMENT REPORT Fire Deputy Chief Nicholas Eschner presented the September Report. September was the second month in a row that call volume decreased which has not happened in years, however overall calls for 2024 is still trending to exceed 2023 volume. Recruiting is ongoing for remaining vacancies. The recently completed FD recruitment video was presented. Given the weather, the FD presented vehicle extrication equipment instead of performing the extrication demonstration. QA discussion followed. ENGINEERING REPORT Russ Rietveld provided an update on current construction projects. QA discussion followed. UNFINISHED BUSINESS None NEW BUSINESS An overview of recent bicycle and pedestrian accidents was provided and possible opportunities for improving bicycle and pedestrian safety were discussed. QA discussion followed. ADJOURNMENT At 8:21 p.m. Commissioner Schvimer made a motion to adjourn which was seconded by Commissioner Penning and passed unanimously.
