SKOKIE PUBLIC SAFETY COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 19, 2025 PRESENT: Michael Anderson, Police Chief Jesse Bames, Connell CoIIins, Scott Ford, Fire Chief Jeff Hoeflich, Avron Kahn, Kimani Levy, Fred Moore, Paul Pitalis, Leslie Post-Weissinger, Vice Chairman Dennis Rizo, Howard Rosenburg, Transportation Engineer Erik Sanchez and Chairman Melissa ViIIegas EXCUSED: Marcie CIaus, Fire DC Op Nicholas Eschner, Deputy Chief Denise Franklin, Deputy Fire Chief Stephen Jagman, Paul Kruszynski, Senior Engineer Samantha Maximilian, Deputy Chief John Oakley, Trustee Alison Pure-Siovin, Director of Engineering Russ Rietveld, Jeffrey Schvimer, Director of Public Works Max Slankard and Trustee Edie Sue Sutker ABSENT: Mark Penning and Bryant Smith CALL JQ QRDER_AND APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES Chairperson Melissa Villegas called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. Quorum was established. The minutes of the January 15th meeting were approved. ENGINEERING REPORT Erik Sanchez, Transportation Engineer discussed updates regarding the Skokie resurfacing program. He presented the Proposed Village Wide Speed Limit Reduction to 25 mph in residential districts. The project involves reducing the speed limits on residential, local, and a few collector streets from 30 mph to 25 mph. The change will provide traffic safety benefits and increase awareness of speed limits on residential streets. UrbanSDK and historical traffic data was used to determine if change was warranted. QA discussion followed. POLICE DEPARTMENT REPORT Police Chief Bames presented the January Report. Group A offenses are down five percent while group B offenses are up 25 percent. Chief Bames gave an update on the proposed camera system for commercial parking. New entry level candidates are being interviewed. Job applications for lateral and entry levels are still open until March 3. Seven people are in various stages of training for the academy. QA discussion followed. FIRE DEPARTMENT REPORT Fire Chief Hoeflich presented the January Report. Inspections are much higher for fire prevention when compared to 2024. EMS calls are up compared to last year as well. Four people are currently in the fire academy who are doing well. The Fire Department is coordinating with Human Resources on promotion opportunities for a Captain and Lieutenant. Chief HoefUch spoke about the transmission water main break that occurred on February 14, 2025. QA discussion followed. UNFINISHED BUSINESS None NEW BUSINESS Chairperson Melissa Villegas reminded the commission that if you wish to attend The Boards & Commissions reception, to please RSVP. The reception will take place at the Holiday Inn on March 12, 2025 at 6:00 pm. ADJOURNMENT At 8:14 p.m. a motion to adjourn was made by Metissa Villegas, Dennis Rizo seconded and all approved.
