SKOKIE PUBLIC SAFETY COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES WEDNESDAY, MAY 21, 2025 PRESENT: Michael Anderson, Police Chief Jesse Barnes, Marcie Claus, Conneil Collins, Fire DC Op Nicholas Eschner, Scott Ford, Fire Chief Jeff Hoeflich, Avron Kahn, Paul Kmszynski, Senior Engineer Samantha Maximilian, Fred Moore, Paul Pitalis (Emeritus), Vice Chairman Dennis Rizo, Howard Rosenburg, Bryant Smith and Chairman Melissa Villegas, EXCUSED: Deputy Chief Denise Franklin, Deputy Fire Chief Stephen Jagman, Deputy Chief John Oakley, Trustee Alison Pure- SIovin, Director of Engineering Russ Rietveld, Jeffrey Schvimer and Director of Public Works Max Slankard ABSENT: Leslie Post-Weissinger and Mark Penning CALL TO ORDER AND APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES Chairperson Melissa Villegas called the meeting to order at 7:02 p.m. Quorum was established. The minutes of the April 16th meeting were approved. POLICE DEPARTMENT REPORT Chief Bames reviewed the PD April Report. Police service calls are down 2.2%. Chief discussed the traffic enforcement campaign they initiated focusing on citizen concerns and high crash intersections. QA discussion followed. FIRE DEPARTMENT REPORT Deputy Chief Eschner presented the FD April Report. The FD is set to break a record with service calls, they are close to log 12,000 calls received. QA discussion followed. The Fire Department presented the Community Risk Assessment that was completed by the Fire Department. This helps the organization assess, plan, and prepare for potential hazards, prioritize resources, and develop strategies to reduce risks and improve community safety. ENGINEERING REPORT Samanfha Maximilian, Senior Engineer gave an update on the Engineering Division efforts. Both the Oakton Street Bridge and Old Orchard Street Bridge projects have commenced back up for the season. At next month's meeting, the 2025 CIP construction project will be presented. Also discussed was the proposed Village Wide speed limit reduction on residential districts that was approved but the Village Board at Monday night's meeting. The draft ordinance and will return to the board for further discussion in an upcoming June Board meeting. QA discussion followed.
