Meeting Minutes
Date: Tuesday, November 28, 2023
Time: 7 p.m.
Location: Skokie Village Hall

Attendees: Sam Corcione, Jimmy Gonzalez, Richard Owen, Alex Franz, Christopher Oh,
Baccet Levy, Vincent Giovannone, Syed Mahmood, Ken Grossman and Avi Nutkis.
Absent: Scott Shamberg
1. Welcome & Introductions
Sam called the meeting to order at 7 p.m. Motion by Avi Nutkis. Seconded by
Ken Grossman. All approved.
2. Approve minutes from Tuesday, October 24, 2023
A motion was made by Syed Mahmood and was seconded by Baccet Levy. All
approved.
3. Discussion Higher Priority Programming
Cyber Security Program – Tier 1
Avi reported that the event will likely be in March or May of 2024. He further
explained that World Password Day is May 2 and that it might be good to
have the event near that date.
Program on AI & ChatGPT – Tier 1
Alex explained that he contacted the Library about reserving the auditorium
and that they expressed interest in partnering with the Commission. He
explained that if the commission wished to partner with the Library on the
event, that the event would need to be moved to March instead of February
as originally proposed. The group agreed to partner with the Library and Alex
will work with them on a date and the logistics.
Survey Residents & Businesses on Technology Questions – Tier 1
Alex presented the survey response data to the group. The group discussed
adding a free response question and question on the age of the respondent
to the future survey. They further discussed having a PDF of the survey
available in the Health and Human Services waiting room so that residents
could complete it while they waited for their appointment. Alex will share the
excel sheet of all survey data to the commission when he sends out the
meeting minutes.
Technological Excellence Award – Tier 1
Alex explained that as of the meeting, no award submissions have been
received. He explained that this is a trend that other commissions are seeing
with their award programs and that the group can extend the deadline to
submit, if needed.
STAT Website – How the Village is Using Tech – Tier 1
Alex explained that the videos will be developed in the spring.
Home Medical Technology – Tier 1
Sam explained that the he will meet with the team in early 2024.

Program About Navigation Aggressive Sales Tactics – Tier 2
No discussion was had.

Technology Glossary – Tier 2
The group agreed that now that the survey data has been compiled, they can
better determine what information to add to the glossary.
Drone Photography – Tier 2
No discussion was had.
Spring Greening
Alex will talk with Public Works to determine what volunteer opportunities are
available for the commission.
5. New Business
Jimmy will reach out to Niles North about the annual Science Fair. Sam will
contact CUB for dates on the annual utility bill event.
6. Next Meeting
The group agreed to cancel the December meeting. The next meeting will be
January 30, 2024.

Cyber Security Program AVI/______
Let’s prepare for another event in October. To include A Program on Tracking
An event on digital privacy and why you get ads when you go to places, visit
webpages, or say certain things. Also will include A Program on Credit Improving
Technology Avi suggested a joint event with the Consumer Affairs Commission
on Credit Improving Technology. Financial Literacy may be included in this
Avi explained that a decision was made to push the event back until March of
2024. Avi will share a copy of his presentation with Syed when it is complete.
A Program on AI and ChatGPT Avi_/__Baccet___
The group discussed having an educational event on the use of ChatGPT and
other emerging AI platforms. The group discussed creating an advisory memo for
the Village Board on using AI like ChatGPT. This could be expanded to have
trainings and/or a presentation. Avi explained that he also can create some
content on AI and how voice and video can be altered with the software. Avi
and Baccet will meet to set a date for the event. Possible setting up event
presentation to be AI and ChatGPT for the program live, IMPROV style,
demonstrate using keywords from the audience to create something live at the
event
Survey Residents & Businesses on Technology Questions Scott/Alex (all)
Scott suggested that the group create separate surveys for residents and
businesses that ask what technological questions that they would like answered
or what technology programs they might want to see. Coming along swiftly,
additional publicity to move forward
Technological Excellence Award Jimmy/Syed
Jimmy suggested that the Commission conduct a Village-wide technological
excellence award where applicants will be rated on their application of
technological innovations in their everyday life, businesses, etc. Must create a
nomination form and have it on the STAT page 2 months in advance.
Can a list of finalized questions be put on paper, and what will we award?
- Name of Individual or Industry
- How does this individual or industry demonstrate technological
excellence?
- How has this individual or industry made a positive impact on Skokie?
it has appeared in the October 31 Enews.
STAT Website – How the Village is Using Tech Avi/Chris O
Avi suggested that the Commission showcase how the Village is using
technology on the STAT webpage. Avi and Chris Oh will meet to discuss the
webpage. Alex explained that he can assist in the page development and
providing content. To include Videos on how the Village is using technology.
The group agreed that the first two videos should be “How the Village
Telegraphs Sewers” and “How the Village uses Drones”. Alex will talk with the
communications team on developing the videos. Propose Spring 2024
5. Discussion Lower Priority Programming
Home Medical Technology Syed/Baccet_
Syed explained that he would like to assist in this program. Sam said he will share
his notes on the topic. (I have no notes after all.) Syed and Baccet will have a
meeting about an inkling of a plan and Alex will engage people at the Health
Department. The Health Department was contacted by Alex, and they
suggested this program is not for them, they will give Alex a list of providers that
will be more interested in assisting with this process. One of the reasons is that we
are not professional enough to word this in a way where we are not stepping
over the line of dispensing medical advice. Sam will have more time to commit
to this at the beginning of 2024
A program about navigating Aggressive sales tactics _Chris O_/_AVI_____
Christopher initiated a discussion on the aggressive sales tactics of phone
providers and how the Commission can help educate residents on these tactics
and how to best navigate them. Chris had a preliminary contract with CUB
about updated information
Tech for Families Communicating with International Families Scott/Sam
Scott explained that many people living in Skokie are likely communicating with
family members living in different countries and that a program on technology
that helps residents connect with family might be beneficial to residents. Alex will
send Scott and Sam the age and demographic data of the Village.
Technology Glossary Avi Lead/All Commissioners
Avi advised the group that many Skokie residents are likely not familiar with the
names and acronyms associated with every day technology. Alex discussed
the possibility of creating a glossary of technology and posting it to the STAT
webpage. Avi added that the group could create mini-video presentations on
the technology and post them to YouTube or link already created videos to
the STAT page. I sent a list to Avi, it needs to be pared down Items for the
glossary will be determined based on the responses from the survey data. Alex
will pull data from the surveys and bring it to the next meeting. Scott suggested
breaking the glossary into sub-groups.
An Event for Recycling Tech Waste and Shredding __Sam_/_____
The group discussed a technology waste cleanup event and possible
collaboration with SWANCC. Alex reminded the group that SWANCC offers a
number of waste events each year and that all Skokie residents can attend these
events.
