Village Seal Committee July 10, 2023 Meeting Minutes In attendance: Maria Monastero Bueno, Dick Witry, Trustee Khem Khoeun, Emily England, Sheila Crumrine, Thom DaMario, Jasmine Gurneau, Amanda Sabri, Alex Franz, Patrick Deignan Absent: Karen Lise Sherman, Joe Hibdon, Michaela Marchi Review of minutes: Minutes approved. Report on June 29 presentation to CAICC: Dick and Sheila provided a summary of their presentation to the Chicago American Indian Community Collaborative (CAICC) on June 29. Jasmine communicated that the presentation was well received and that members of CAICC had good follow-up questions for the presenters. Review updated draft of community survey: Sheila suggested additional language to provide clarity about the purpose of the survey and how responses would be used. The group provided a number of other text edits to the survey introduction and questions, and agreed that all question responses should be optional with the exception of the question regarding Skokie affiliation. The group set a deadline of September 15 for survey responses to allow for publication in the fall edition of the NewSkokie newsletter mailed to all Skokie households, and agreed that the survey was ready to distribute after the provided edits were incorporated. Review updated fact sheet: The group agreed that the fact sheet should incorporate the same edits made to the survey. The group also suggested partnering with the Skokie Public Library and/or the Skokie Park District on future educational programs, and expressed interest in including schools in any educational initiatives. The group suggested reaching out to the Skokie Public Library’s engagement team to see if any related educational initiatives are planned in the future. The group agreed that the fact sheet was ready to distribute after the provided edits were incorporated. Review of artist RFQ: The group decided to extend the proposed due date for RFQ responses until after Labor Day, selecting September 8 as the deadline. A number of other edits were made to the RFQ to reflect updates made to the fact sheet and survey, and to remove potential barriers to artists and organizations who might be interested. Patrick asked that the group provide any suggestions for artists and organizations to reach out to regarding the RFQ. The group agreed that the RFQ was ready to post and distribute after the provided edits were incorporated. Community engagement: To help educate and engage the community on the Village Seal initiative, Emily and Jasmine volunteered to represent the Committee at the Skokie Farmers’ Market on August 13. Dick, Sheila and Maria volunteered to represent the Committee at the Wednesdays on the Green event on August 16. Schedule for future meetings: The group set the next meeting date for August 28 at 4 p.m. at Village Hall. #613674
