Village Seal Committee April 1, 2024 Meeting Minutes In attendance: Maria Monastero Bueno, Jasmine Gurneau, Sheila Crumrine, Thom DaMario, Emily England, Dick Witry, Patrick Deignan, Amanda Sabri, Alex Franz Not in attendance: Joe Hibdon, Trustee Khem Khoeun Review Minutes from February 26, 2024 meeting • Minutes approved Discuss artist selection • Committee discussed merits of each candidate • Committee took non-binding vote to gauge interest in moving forward with each candidate. Committee members then agreed to reflect on the discussion and select their preferred candidate by April 5, 2024. Discuss themes and elements desired in seal design • Committee discussed design preferences for new seal and determined that: o The seal should be circular in nature o The seal should include “Village of Skokie” o The seal should include the Village’s incorporation date of 1888 o The seal may include the slogan, “Village of Vision” o The seal may include Illinois but does not have to include Cook County o The design should have a more singular focus versus a quadrant-based design o The design should not include depictions of a human o Possible design themes/elements may include fire (representing spirit of Skokie); acorn (representing past, present and future); canoe; tree; water; and most common words/themes shared via the community survey o Including specific buildings in the seal design could be problematic; however, the Committee could consider Village Hall, the Dempster Street CTA station, and the original log cabin, if desired Schedule for next meeting • The Committee set a potential meeting date of April 26, pending the selected candidate’s availability #617614
