Genesis Velez Legal Advisor Michael Fenton Gladys Oyola Nicole LeBlanc Alex Sherman Paralegal Al Rodriguez Meeting of Thursday, August 1, 2024 MINUTES-PUBLIC MEETING The meeting was called to order at 11:00 a.m. Commissioners Drew Piemonte, Judith Crowell, Michael Fenton, Genesis Velez Al Rodriguez and Alex Sherman were present. FIRST order of business-Approval of Minutes: Commissioner Velez motioned to approve the meeting minutes from July 1, 2024. Motion was 2nded by Commissioner Crowell with a roll call vote to approve. SECOND order of business-Review Human Resources Residency Data The commission reviewed data the City Council requested the Human Resources Department. The data reviewed was a broad sampling of comparable salary data from adjoining cities and towns. The cities and town included Springfield, Chicopee, Pittsfield, Ludlow, Westfield, East Hampton and South Hadley. The commission also reviewed data the City Council requested which showed the residency requirements other cities and towns in the area have. The data was from Pittsfield, Westborough, Worcester and Holyoke. All data was gathered by Assistant Director of Human Resources Caitlyn Julius who was also present to discuss the data. Assistant Director Julius explained when gathering the salary data, she reached out to the surrounding communities who Springfield would typically lose employees to. For the residency requirement data, she looked at all Massachusetts cities and towns that have a residency requirement. THIRD order of business-Executive Session: Case Assignment Commissioner Crowell made a motion to move into executive session for the purpose of discussing employment matters and the body will not be returning to open session. Motion was 2nded by Commissioner Velez.
