Page 2 of 5 SENIOR CONCERNS COMMISSION MINUTES February 2, 2026 Commissioners Present: Cindy Woods (Chair), Beverly Johnson, Sue Bachman Board Liaison: Trustee Tina Konstatos Also in Attendance: Janet Bly, Staff Liaison I. Call to Order Chairperson Woods called the meeting to order at 6:00 pm II. Pledge of Allegiance III. Public Comments – Agenda Items None IV. Public Comments – Non-Agenda Items None V. Old Business a. Adopt a Senior - updates and further discussion Trustee Konstatos updated us on conversations she has had with Willowbrook high school Jean Barbanente and staff. Meeting with commissioners and school staff scheduled for Wednesday, February 4 at 2pm. We would also like to involve Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops. b. Villa Park Senior/Volunteer of the Year - updates, discussion and change Program has not been active for at least 6 years. The Commission discussed and with it being so close, we may want to consider this to start up in 2027. c. Senior Fair in May – discussion Program has not been active for at least 6 years. Previously it was held at the VFW and many vendors participated (senior living facilities, insurance providers). Because May is coming up soon, a new date was proposed. Week of September 21- 25 was proposed. Janet will check the rec center calendar and let us know next meeting. Motion to table the Senior Fair until the next meeting was made by Commissioner Bachman and seconded by Commissioner Johnston. Voice vote passed with all ayes. d. Senior Concerns Directory – discussion, template, ideas on gathering information Janet keeps a mailing list database of people for her newsletter (328 people) and there is a mailing list for the SALT meetings. We can start with those people. Commissioner Johnston will reach out to the VFW as well. Page 3 of 5 Motion to make the Senior Concerns Directory a project we will tackle in 2026 was made by Commissioner Bachman and seconded by Commissioner Johnston. Voice vote passed with all ayes. e. Villa Park Fest Table – discussion Trustee Konstatos shared her conversation with Village President Patrick that it would be a good idea. The date for the Fest has not been determined. Motion tp have a Senior Concerns Table at the Villa Park Fest was made by Commissioner Bachman and seconded by Commissioner Johnston. Voice vote passed with all ayes. f. Seniors Spot in Village Newsletter – York Township services and update Janet will add a blurb in her newsletter and Trustee Konstatos will talk to the village communications staff member. Discussion is ongoing. Motion to table discussion of the Senior Newsletter until next meeting. a Senior Concerns Table at the Villa Park Fest was made by Commissioner Johnston and seconded by Commissioner Bachman. Voice vote passed with all ayes. VI. New Business a. Discussion of the March 10 SALT meeting. Janet presented information. She needs information on what the budget is for the meeting. For the March meeting, lunch has always been ordered from HiView Restaurant for 60 people. In the past, they have given lunch for $10/person, but prices have gone up. Police bring donuts at 10:30. Speaker is at 11 and lunch at noon (with dessert). Proposed budget. Food and beverages-- no more than $650. Plates, napkins, silverware, cups -- budget of $200 (will take us through all of 2026). Table decorations for 10 tables $50 Coffee, decaf, tea and lemonade for drinks. Proposal for dessert. Janet will look into getting cookies from Restaurant Depot to bake in the kitchen. Motion to approve budget of $900 for SALT meetings made by Commissioner Bachman and seconded by Commissioner Johnston. Voice vote passed with all ayes. b. SALT meetings for 2026: March 10, June 26, September 25 and December 15. All meetings start at 10am at the Villa Park Rec Center. VII. Approval of Minutes. January 5, 2026 Motion to approve the minutes as presented was made by Commissioner Johnston and seconded by Commissioner Bachman. Voice vote passed with all ayes. Page 4 of 5 VIII. Chairman Comments Chairman Woods will meet with York Township in the next couple weeks. IX. Commissioner Comments None X. Board Liaison Comments Trustee Konstatos voiced her appreciation for staff liaison Bly. She does so much for the seniors and senior programming. Reminder for the family-friendly Sweetheart dance at the VFW on February 14. Polar Plunge for Special Olympics March 21 at Oakbrook Bath and Tennis. Ernesto Perez at the Police Department XI. Staff Liaison Comments None. XII. Adjourn Motion to adjourn was made by Commissioner Bachman and seconded by Commissioner Johnston. Voice vote passed with all ayes.
