PUBLIC NOTICE Westmont 100th Anniversary Committee Meeting Electronic Attendance Only Thursday, January 7, 2021 at 3:30 p.m. MINUTES 1. Call To Order -​ The 100th Anniversary Committee Meeting was called to order at 3:31 PM by Larry McIntyre 2. Roll Call​ - Co-Chair Mayor Ron Gunter, Co-Chair Larry McIntyre, Village Manager Steve May, Mike Ramsey, Steve Riley, Frank Brady, Jenny Babyar, Dustin Kleefisch, Amy Quatrone, Larry Forssberg, Alice Krampits, Sandy Henricksen, Will Sperling 3. Pledge of Allegiance -​ Waived by Steve M 4. Public Comment - ​None 5. Approval of Minutes - ​Motion by Steve R, second by Mike R, approved unanimously by voicevote 6. Anniversary Committee Updates a. 100th Anniversary Logo - Car and Facility Decals i. Larry M. showed the committee the final versions of the logo and stated if anyone needed a copy of the logo for their use to contact him ii. Public Works created a decal mock-up of the logo for village vehicles and buildings. Mike R. confirmed that Public Works has supplies needed to produce the decals. iii. There will be a meeting next week to discuss placement of the decals on vehicles and buildings. b. Future of Westmont Project - Historical Mural Project i. Larry M. reported that we received approx 10 submissions, which were presented at a Nov. Village Board meeting for the 99th Anniversary. Fanny Moy will be using these submissions in the creation of the final mural. c. 100th Anniversary Trivia Challenge i. Larry M. reported that the contest was announced Dec 1 and kicked off Jan 1. 127 residents have signed up and more are coming in. Residents have the month of January to complete the challenge and submit their answers. d. Mayor’s Centennial Legacy Awards i. Larry F. reported that possible criteria for the award was previously developed by Larry M. and a list of families had been made for consideration. Szymski, Robinson, Addington, Bellerive, and other families/groups. It was reported that the timeframe for presenting the awards would be close to the actual anniversary date in Nov 2021. The award ceremony will be a stand alone event. The Mayor thanked the two Larrys for helping put this together. e. 100th Anniversary License Plates i. Manager May reported that he reviewed the program and turned in the application around Jan 1, the Secretary of State has not acknowledged receiving the letter yet. The plate can only be displayed for 3 months. Manager May is suggesting Sept, Oct, Nov, an order was placed for 200, but we can change quantity if we want. f. Historical Photos for Village Hall i. Larry M. reported that he and Alice selected the photos for this project, the pix were printed and presented at the Nov. Village Board meeting. g. Historical Booklet i. Alice K. reported that the book is printed and available for purchase. ii. The Historical Society has purchased 200 of the books. Some stores that are going to carry the book are waiting on shipments to be delivered. iii. Alice thanked Maggie for writing it. iv. The historical society is offering special membership deals that include anniversary beer and a copy of the book at a discounted rate of $17. v. Larry M. reported that there has been a lot of good publicity for the book including: Neighbors magazine cover, 2 press releases, social media posts, and an upcoming article in Suburban Life as well. h. Fire Department Event i. Alice K. talked about the history of the Fire Department when there were two people claiming to be the Fire Chief, and they would hide the fire truck on each other, with that in mind, we were thinking of creating a Hide The Fire Truck Scavenger Hunt in which people would need to solve clues to find the truck. Larry M., Steve R., and Alice will work on the event details. The event will be during fire prevention week in Oct. i. Frank Trout Update i. Larry M. reported that Frank Trout and Dick Swanson said the old fire truck still exists in Lemont. Maybe we can see if it is in good condition and bring it to Westmont. j. Anniversary Beer i. Dustin and Alice suggested that Whiskey Hill Brewing Co. create a 100th Anniversary brew ii. Larry M. has been involved in the publicity of the project and created a public contest to help name the brew. The brew will debut this month. k. Park District 100th Anniversary Brew Event i. Dustin K. reported that 33 tickets have been sold already for their beer fest. There has been a lot of social media publicity for the event. The event will be at the Twin Lakes golf course. The Whiskey Hill Anniversary Amber Ale will be featured at the event. l. Park District Beanie Baby Update i. Alice reported that a request for beanie babies will be submitted. m. Department/Agency/Organization Histories i. Larry M. created a spreadsheet that was sent to all departments/agencies to add their history. ii. Larry M. asked about the Maercker District history that was written by Fred Munginger; Alice said that the Historical Society is thinking of printing it for the 100th Anniversary. It could possibly be used as a fundraiser. Larry M. suggested that the piece should be posted online free of charge so that the community has access to Westmont’s history free of charge. n. Westmont History Update on Village Website i. Larry M. stated he wants to put the histories of village departments and agencies on the website, and this ties into the need for each department and agency to complete their history. It was discussed that once info is submitted, we would want a consistent tone for all of the histories, if possible. o. Video Production Update i. Larry M. stated that interviewees have been chosen and that he will meet again with Al Kohout to confirm details and start production. ii. Alice K. said she had a copy of the 50th Anniversary Parade that she could send to the village to be uploaded and used. p. 100th Anniversary Celebration Calendar of Events i. All events TBD due to COVID-19 1. Dist 201 - Amy Q will think of things for school kids. 2. Larry M suggests fall ideas. 3. Larry M said the Library has events on hold, but will revisit the topic 4. Alice reported that the Gregg House is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year and is thinking of a Sept event. 5. Mayor reported that one of the founding Historical Society members, Joyce Feltz, will be 90 years old 1/8/2021. q. 100th Anniversary Village Board Meeting Reports i. Next Village Board Meeting will feature updates on the 100th Anniversary Book, 100th Anniversary Brew, 100th Anniversary Scavenger Hunt r. 100th Anniversary Coins i. Steve M. reported that the Village will be creating several 100th Anniversary commemorative coins He will oversee the coordination of this. s. 4th of July fireworks i. Plans for 4th of July Fireworks are still TBD, Mayor had previously suggested enhancing this year’s display, Dustin K. reported there will be changes to 4th of July - COVID precautions as well. t. 50th anniversary book i. Larry M. stated that a History Booklet was created 50 years ago. Larry stated that Maggie South has offered to re-type the booklet so that there is a digital copy. ii. Alice stated that she believes there is already a PDF version of the booklet and doesn’t think it needs to be re-typed. Alice will get the PDF copy to Larry M. which will then be placed on the Village Website for people to download. u. Memorabilia - Polo Shirts, lapel pins, coins, patches i. Manager May reported that staff is working on several items for staff including uniforms and internal items. Other items are being considered as well. v. Misc. i. Sandy H. stated that she has been noticing families out walking a lot, and that some walking paths have created a storybook series that people can ready during their walk. She suggested we could consider trying something similar, but have historical items/images/stories at the parks along walking paths. Dustin and Alice liked the idea and said they had done something similar in the past. Dustin also mentioned that the Park District has message boards that could be used. It was suggested that a sub-group of Sandy, Alice, Dustin and Larry M. could work on this. ii. Larry M. suggested creating a Ghosts of Westmont program in which actors would portray famous Westmont personalities from the past in a performance about Westmont History. Alice said that the Gregg House has done something like this in the past using actors from the Performance Arts Group. 7. Anniversary Committee Budget -​ No update. Larry M. sent an email to Spencer Parker for a budget update, which will be provided at the next 100th Anniversary meeting. 8. Committee Member Assignments / Action Items a. ACTION ITEM​ - Larry M. will reach out to individuals, departments, and agencies to discuss status of written histories b. ACTION ITEM​ - Larry M. will continue to work with Departments and Agencies regarding their 2021 events c. ACTION ITEM ​- Alice will send 50th anniversary booklet PDF to Larry M. to put on village website d. ACTION ITEM​ - Larry M will research and create a list of possible memorabilia purchases and prices e. ACTION ITEM​ - Sandy, Alice, Dustin and Larry M. will work on developing the walk path historical stories idea f. ACTION ITEM​ - Alice will get a copy of the 50th Anniversary Parade to Larry M. to post on the Village website. 9. Unfinished Business​ - None 10. New Business​ - None 11.
