Minutes - Wheaton Bicycle Advisory Committee Subcommittee of the Environmental Improvement Commission October 19, 2016, 7:00pm In Attendance: Carrie Provost, Michelle Dunlap, Therese Kushman, Eric Weseman, Dan Dlhy, Laurel Salvador *Dan chaired meeting. Approval of minutes: Therese approved the minutes and Carrie seconded. The minutes are approved. Public Comment: 4 visitors from WNHS AP Government class students. Minutes: Committee work ● Thank you too Carrie P for organizing the bike rides. ● Thank you to Rita N for taking minutes. Bike to School October 5 ● Schools participating ○ Bower 226 participants ○ Sandburg 160 participants ○ Whittier 212 participants ● Karen will go to PTA to discuss having a dedicated person from the council. ● Push for more participation from schools, Bike to School Spring. ● Contact each school’s Wellness Committee to support Bike to School. ● Michelle explained Bike to School to WNHS students ● Dan requested we archive all Bike to School numbers for each school. Therese will compile May numbers. Coffee With Council: ● Dan attended in October. ● Councilman John Rutledge discussed bike festival. ● Dan raised issue of re-routing Prairie Path and road signs. No definitive answer from council on either issue. ● Post-meeting, Dan talked with John Rutledge about opening our group rides to public. We’d need legal document for liability. ● Karen sent Coffee with Council Google Sheet for inputting notes. ● Laurel attended past coffee with council and proposed including a bicycle coordinator on council. ○ Council requested a letter describing what a coordinator would do. ○ would include writing funding grants, serve as liaison to bike committee, monitor ○ Implementation of bike plan and serve as point of contact for residents and visitors. ○ Warrenville and Lombard have bike coordinators. ○ Laurel will respond to City of Wheaton re: bike coordinator. ● November 5 Laurel and Eric ● December 3 Michelle and Carrie Illinois Prairie Path meeting Sunday, November 6, 2 pm. Memorial Park leisure center.Therese will attend.
