Minutes - Wheaton Bicycle Advisory Committee Subcommittee of the Environmental Improvement Commission January 18, 2017, 7:00pm In Attendance: Carrie Provost, Michelle Dunlap, Therese Kushman, Dan Dlhy, Karen Saad, Bill Nieman, Rita Nathanson, Nancy Allured. Karen chaired meeting. Approval of minutes: Michelle approved the minutes and Nancy seconded. The minutes are approved. Public Comment: David Bendowski from the community joined the meeting to observe and ask questions at end of meeting. Minutes: ● Ongoing Business ​Karen spoke to PTA presidents to promote bike to School in District 200. Encouraged PTA’s to take over Bike to School programs, elect a chairperson, and check with principal re: someone in the school to organize. Karen will follow up in 1 month with an email to each school. Therese will send flyer and PDF to make stickers to Michelle Trisik PTA president of district 200 and ask her to forward to each school participating. ● Coffee With Council​ Michelle and Carrie attended December 3. Michelle asked about including bike lanes in road upgrades within the CMA, Safe Roads Grant. February Coffee with Council Dan and Therese will attend March coffee with Council Rita and Karen will attend Concerns are that Bike Plan Map doesn’t totally match the city’s posted map in the Bike Plan on Wheaton Bike Committee web page. Do we need written permission to reproduce current map. Nancy will check prices to print 11 X 17” map, single sided. Cohesive notes taken on each Coffee with Council to track our concerns and progress with bike Plan. ● Wheaton Historic Ride​ May 2017 is 100 anniversary of WW1. Wheaton preservation Society designated 10 historic sites with markers. Carrie will create historic bike route in May visiting the downtown and close by sites. Docent included and liability waiver created. Michelle will email John Duguay re: what we need to do to make this a public event. Michelle and Carrie will attend Preservation Society’s committee meeting February 21. The ride is May 20. ● We discussed applying for bike Friendly City designation. ● Bill and Jim in charge of Wheaton’s implementation for 5 year Bike Plan and streets improvements. Forthwith designated as the “Bike Plan Implementation Watchdog”. ● City requested our schedule of bike Advisory meetings. We meet 3rd Wednesday of each month. No meetings December and July 2017. ● Therese attended Illinois Prairie Path meeting November 6. Long range transportation plan: bike, pedestrian, rail, public transportation. Chief transportation officer is John Loper. Environmental Improvement Committee Officer Sidney Kenyon replaced Dan Thomas. Michelle will invite Sidney Kenyon to our February meeting to discuss the the Wheaton downtown project and how it affects the Prairie Path. ● Therese will attend Warrenville/Winfield Bike Pedestrian Advisory Committee on February 8, 7 pm. ● Nancy requested sub-committee for Bike Festival: Carrie, Rita, Bill, Therese, and Dan volunteered.
