Chair Report: On April 5th, Dan attended a meeting at Cantigny Golf Club with the Warrenville Bicycle Pedestrian
Advisory Committee, the Winfield Bicycle Committee, Cantigny Staff and members of the DuPage Forest Preserve. The
meeting was to discuss a proposed bike path starting at St. James Farm, going through the Forest Preserve and around
the Cantigny Golf Course to the main park (Cantigny). Also discussed was a grant that the DuPage Forest Preserve
received to build a parking lot and path running parallel to Mack Road to Winfield Road. The funds for the grant will be
available for the DuPage Forest Preserve in the next ten years.
Ongoing Business:
Bike To School: Therese contacted the PTA Council President and other members of the PTA by passing out a flyer for
the Bike / Walk to School event to distribute at an upcoming PTA Meeting on April 26th. Sandburg, Whittier and Bauer
schools all have signed up for the event through the Bike / Walk to School website.
Coffee with Council: Since our committee will not continue to attend the Coffee with Council meetings on a regular
basis, Dan reached out to Paul Redmond to discuss proposed ways to gather information on upcoming engineering
projects.
Wheaton History Ride: The waivers that were created for the history ride will need to be filled out by participants and
the City of Wheaton will keep these on file for ten years. The ride will begin at 2pm on Saturday May 20th and we will
gather at the fountain in Adams Park (next to the Wheaton Public Library). Nancy Flannery of the Wheaton Historical
Preservation Society will be our docent to speak of the history of each stop will be riding along with the members of the
Wheaton Bicycle Advisory Committee and Wheaton Residents. The Wheaton Historical Preservation Society will help to
promote the ride and our committee members will help pass out the flyers as well.
National Bike Month (May): Rita will contact and work with the Wheaton Public Library to set up a display for National
Bike Month. Requesting that a copy of our bike map, a “Bike Wheaton” t-shirt, a copy of our scheduled rides and bike
about bicycling be displayed for patrons.
Wheaton Bike Map: A current copy of the Wheaton Bike Map was passed around to committee members to see the
finished product. The printing of the maps turned out beautifully and we have 200 for use at our events.
Wheaton Bike Festival 2017: Paula Barrington of the Downtown Wheaton Association committed to have postcards
and flyers created for the event. The bike festival will be held on Saturday August 12th from 10am until noon. Still
trying to get in touch with the Wheaton Police Department on whether or not they will help with the Bike Rodeo.
New Business: Bike Valet for the Taste of Wheaton on Saturday June 3rd. The sign-up sheet was distributed and
members selected times to volunteer to be preset at the booth. Volunteers are still needed for the event and we will
reach out to others for commitments.
