Minutes - Wheaton Bicycle Advisory Commission
Wednesday February 28th, 2018
Roll Call: Chair, Dan Dlhy called the meeting to order at 7:07pm
In Attendance: Dan Dlhy, Rita Nathanson, Carrie Provost, Nancy Allured, Therese Kushman and
Michelle Dunlap
Approval of Minutes: Michelle Dunlap approved the minutes and Carrie Provost seconded
Public Comment: None
Chair Report:
Discussed the possibility of having a co-Chair to help with making appointments and meetings since Dan
Dlhy’s full-time job has the potential for more travel in the upcoming year. Will discuss with the city of
Wheaton to get their thoughts
Ongoing Business:
Taste of Wheaton / Bike Valet: Michelle Dunlap reported that the date of the 2018 Bike Valet is
Saturday June 2nd from 6:30am until 7pm. Need to research the possibility of getting volunteers to help-
out with the staffing of the table – if the Park District is going to allow another business to sponsor the
Bike Valet, then we will request some volunteers as well.
Bike / Walk to School: Therese Kushman reported that the 2018 event will be on May 9th. We are
trying to get on the PTA’s agenda for their March 14th meeting and will get some flyers out to the
schools to help promote the event.
USGA Women’s Senior Open: Michelle Dunlap mentioned that event is taking place at the Chicago Golf
Club from July 12th – 15th. There would be no table for us to staff or promote our committee, but rather
we would be volunteers helping-out with any task that would be assigned to us. The committee decided
that this event doesn’t fit our goals and we will pass on attending the event this year.
Discussion of Phase 2 of proposed downtown bike lanes: There was nothing new to report on but
Therese Kushman did offer to reach out to Councilman Barbier for an update.
Active Trans – Bike Walk West – Mini Grant: Nothing new to report on and we need to reach out to
Laurel Salvador for more information.
New Business:
Carrie Provost created and passed out the 2018 ride schedule. Discussed changing the May 19th ride so
that we can verify the accuracy of the new way-finding signs posted around the city.
Discussed the web page and updating / removing people listed as members that haven’t attended a
meeting in over 12 months. The decision was made to remove those people from the web page.
It was decided that we will email the prospective members to see if they are still interested in joining
the committee. Dan Dlhy will reach out to those applicants via email.
Discussed the possibility of having a table at the “Color Run” on April 14th.
Other topics from Commission Members: None
Upcoming Meetings: Wednesday March 21st & Wednesday April 18th
Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 8:09pm
