Bike Festival – August 11th – Paula Barrington from the Downtown Wheaton Association attended the
meeting. Discussed vendor participation: Bike Rodeo (Wheaton Police Department) – Laurel Salvador,
Spokes & The Bike Surgeon – Dan Dlhy, Trinity Episcopal Church – Michelle Dunlap, AAA (Bicycle
Helmets). The Bike Festival postcards were handed out so they can be dispersed to Wheaton
businesses. The signs for the Prairie Path will be ready for the next meeting so that they can be placed
in various locations along the path. Paula got the permit from the city for the event and the police
department selected option “B” for the route of the parade – due to construction on Front Street.
Giveaways for the Bike Fest are bandana’s, wrist bracelets, bike lights and neck cooling brace.
Taste of Wheaton – Bike Valet (Recap): This year we had 106 bicycles parked with us in 2018. We did
have one bicycle that was unclaimed this year and all attempts (telephone, text, park announcements)
in reaching the individual were unsuccessful. The bicycle was left with the park district in a secure
location and a note was left on our table of where to pick up the bike. Ideas for next years event
included making sure that we can reach telephone numbers as well as getting more horses or barriers to
box-in the bicycles.
Wheaton Public Library Display (Bike Month): Rita Nathanson is handling the set up of the display and
it won’t be available to us until the middle of July. It was discussed about adding a sign of how to
download our map of bike routes through Wheaton.
Progressive Dinner Group Ride: Carrie Provost is going to lead the ride and it’s scheduled for Thursday
July 5th at 5:30pm. Committed to the ride are 10 people with four stops for appetizers, meal and
dessert. Will discuss on where to meet and will email that information out to the group.
History Ride – September: Determined that the History Ride will take place on September 22nd and will
include some of the same locations that we had on the ride last year but there will be some new stops
as well. Details to come later as far as a ride leader and sweep.
New Business: None
Other topics from Commission Members:
Group Ride Reminder - Carrie Provost reminded us that there is a group ride scheduled for Saturday but
she will be unable to lead the ride and since nobody else was able to lead the ride it was decided to
cancel the ride. An email will be sent out as a reminder that the ride has been cancelled.
Upcoming Meetings: Wednesday July 18th, 2018
Wednesday August 15th, 2018
Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 8:23pm
