Minutes
Wednesday October 17th, 2018
7pm, Gammon Room
I. Call to Order
Chair, Dan Dlhy called the meeting to order at 7:04pm
Attendees: Residents / Public: David Creighton, Emily Diaz, Sophie Klopfenstein, Jared Slusher,
Luca Warren, Caroline Gillis. Commission Members / Participants: Alyse Kondrat, Therese
Kushman, Michelle Dunlap, Carrie Provost, Dan Dlhy and Laurel Salvador.
Carrie Provost approved the meeting minutes and Laurel Salvador seconded.
Public Comment: Six Wheaton North High School students attended our meeting as part of an
Advanced Placement class that they are taking at school. Dave Creighton is a Carol Stream
resident who has an interest in bicycling and was attending to get ideas to organize a
commission for their city government.
II. History Ride Recap – September 22nd
Michelle Dunlap reported that the History Ride was another success in that they had
approximately 30 people participate on the ride. Again, we saw people of all ages, from children
to adults. They passed around a sign-up sheet for the people participating and Michelle also
emailed everyone a thank you message for attending. An idea for next year will be to post the
waiver online (city website) so that we don’t have to waste time having everyone do it the day
of the ride.
III. City Street Scape Banners
There were not enough Commission members to vote on whether we should spend money to
replace the worn banners.
IV. Walk / Bike to School – Fall Event
Therese Kushman did not receive any statistics from the schools on the number of students who
participated in the event.
V. Group Ride Reminder – Saturday October 27th
Reminded the group of the upcoming group ride on Saturday October 27th.
VI. Illinois Prairie Path
Therese Kushman reported that the Illinois Prairie Path will be holding a meeting on November 4th
at the Glen Ellyn Library to discuss the ATA Trail Connect project.
VII. Chair Report
Mentioned the new members that we have in the group. Introduced Alyse Kondrat to the group
since she attended the meeting. Also, reported that Doug Jones is also a new member, but he
was unable to attend this meeting.

VIII. Other Topics / New Business:
Group T-Shirts – Michelle Dunlap opened up the topic about the t-shirts for sale and the
Commission discussed the pros & cons of having t-shirts printed up for possible purchase. Also
mentioned was the possibility of a sponsor to alleviate some of the costs.
ATA Bicycle Summit – Laurel Salvador mentioned that she will be attending the meeting held by
ATA on Saturday October 27th and invited other members who are interested to join her at the
meeting.
Commission Budget – Our budget for 2018 was discussed and we have to find out from the city on
whether the unused monies are just forfeited or whether it carries over to the 2019 budget. I (Dan
Dlhy) will contact the city to discuss the issue.
Marketing Ideas – Ideas were kicked around by everyone who attended the meeting on how to
market to younger riders. The high school students provided a lot of great feedback on what social
media outlets are popular right now.
