III. Ongoing Business:
Vote: Printing of the Bicycle Maps – All in favor – Michelle, Bill, Nancy, Carrie,
Rita, Janet, Laurel, Alyse; Nay = none. Alpha Graphics has an account with city.
Action Item: Dan please tell Alyse how much money we have let to spend on
map printing and Action Item: Alyse will work with Alpha Graphics to get
printed.
WBAC Policies & Ordinances (Laurel Salvador) – We are not expanding our
commission to include plans and project for pedestrians; we will only focus on
biking. The Council likes the idea of submitting requests and recommendations
to the Council in a standard template sent to John Duguay.
WBAC Programs (Alyse Kondrat) – Action Item: Alyse to come up with a list of
potential places to drop off Bike Maps.
WBAC Network (Commission) - did not discuss
Bicycle Festival / 4th of July Event Discussion – we need to know what was
approved for the 2020 budget in order to discuss the feasibility of sponsoring the
bike festival without the financial support of the Downtown Wheaton
Association. Action Item: Rita will talk to the Chamber of Commerce to see if
they have ideas for fundraising and/or sponsorship for the Bike Festival. If we
worked with the Park District, could we host it Central Park. We need to talk to
the Park District in January to get on the schedule. We talked about skipping a
year. Bill thought we would lose momentum. Action Item: Alyse will check with
BICYCLE ADVISORY COMMISSIONMEETING MINUTES
Month Date, Year
Paula about notes for Bike Festival. Action Item: Dan to communicate to the
commission what budget dollars were approved for 2020.
Wayfinding Sign Discussion – Elizabeth motioned and Nancy approved and
everyone voted unanimously to approve the changes/corrections to the Bike
Signs that Michelle compiled. Action Item: Michelle to send the email and
corrections to John Duguay.
Brighton: Road work will be completed on Brighton and wanted from Bike
Commission opinion on whether to use Brighton for biking use. Yes, we should
along with Seven Gables Park and adjunct roads West. Action Item: Bill to
forward email from John Duguay about Brighton white strip.
Group Rides: Carrie asked for ideas for next year. New rides were suggested for
2020 Two Brothers, Fermi Lab,Villa Park; we can preview rides in the spring.
Consider sponsoring the solar ride with Jeff of the Clean Wheaton Group.
i. History Ride: Nancy Flannery wants to come to our January Meeting to discuss
possible ideas for the 2020 History Ride: Prohibition, Golf, Mid-Century Modern;
Glennette Tilly Turner suggested we run her video at the library display in July
2020. We may need to have Nancy at the Feb meeting depending on January
attendance.
IV. Other Topics / New Business:
Signage along the prairie path in Villa Park – look at what Villa Park is doing –
DWA may be interested in looking at their signage to see how advertisements for
businesses may drive customers into stores; perhaps we can do a group ride in
the spring to see these signs.
Dupage Prairie Path Meeting – Michelle talked to Sidney Kenyon about the path
to Cantigny, not happening soon but still in the plan. State route - Path from
County Farm to Winfield is planned in about two years.
