WHEATON HOUSING COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES REGULAR MEETING June 25,2015 A special meeting of the Wheaton Housing Commission was held in the Gamon Room, Wheaton City Hall, at 303 W. Wesley Street, Wheaton, Illinois. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 25th, 2015 by Housing Commission Chair, Tom Hudock. Present: Absent: Chris Ellerman William Gilbertson Nancy Harding Thomas Hudock Jeanie Iseman Stuart Johnson Raj Salgia Jan Kay Andrea Petti Mike Rybinski Robert Willock Lindsay Qualkenbush – City of Wheaton Public Comment: None. Communications: None. Housing Assistance Program: Lindsay Qualkenbush, Executive Assistant, City of Wheaton prepared and distributed an updated Wheaton Housing Assistance Summary form. The form displayed the names of an additional 22 applicants that submitted applications for the Wheaton housing assistance program. These additional submittals were the result of a flier sent out as an enclosure in the May, City of Wheaton water bill. This large response to the water bill insert is significant as a display of how the senior citizen population of Wheaton is not clearly being communicated to via current city methods to disseminate city information. Of the 22 new applications 6 were found to not meet the requirements of the program, primarily due to exceeding the income requirements. This is a separate issue that needs to be addressed in the future given that these seniors are in the annual income range of $22,000 to $25,000. Sixteen new applications met all housing assistance requirements, however, available funds only allowed for an 11 applicants to be added to the program. However, there is now a waiting list of 5 applicants, which are in need of financial support to maintain their housing needs within the city that will not receive assistance! Commissioner Johnson moved that applicant numbers 35 through number 45 be approved for acceptance into the housing assistance program. Commissioner Rybinski seconded the motion. The motion carried unanimously. 1 Old Business: None New Business: Chair Hudock recognized and thanked all of the Commissioners and Lindsay Qualkenbush for the extra effort and work they put forth to quickly review and interview these 22 additional applicants. This effort demonstrates the commitment of the Housing Commission to meet the needs of Wheaton’s senior population. Adjournment: Commissioner Rybinski motioned to adjourn the meeting at 7:55 p.m.; Commissioner Gilbertson seconded the motion and it carried unanimously. 2
