CITY OF WHEATON COMMUNITY RELATIONS COMMISSION Minutes - Monday, May 18, 2015 I. Call to Order: by Chairman Ronnie Gillis at 7:50 p.m. II. Roll Call: Commission Members Present: Commission Members Absent: Ronnie Gillis Desiray Young Bill Balis Bill Gilbertson Dan Loftus Bobby McNeily Vickie Miller Renee Webb Citizens to be heard: None. IV. Approval of the minutes: from April 22, 2015. Bobby moved, Vickie seconded and the motion for approval carried. V. Continuing Business: Military Projects – Desiray Young. No report B. Cultural Diversity – Dan Loftus. Dan and Bobby met with Betsy Adamowski from the Wheaton Public Library and they agreed to enter into a partnership with them on planning our cultural event. They established the date of Sunday, September 13 to hold the event. The Park District would also be involved and would provide tents and tables at the site in the area just west of the library. Various cultural groups would be lined up to occupy the tents and a stage would be available for entertainment and concerts. As a tie in to the event, the Library was going to recommend the book, The Book of Unknown Americans, for summer reading. It is a novel by Christina Henriquez regarding immigrants. C. Make a Difference Day – Bill Gilbertson. Bill indicated that he would be getting in touch with former Commissioner, Laurie Oberhelman, to confirm participation from our sponsors for our Make a Difference Day banners. He also said that he and Desiray would be reviewing all of our current banners and signs to determine if we need to make any corrections, repairs or replacements and determine the cost. D. Serve Illinois/Cities of Service – Renee Webb. No report. E. Good Citizens – Vickie Miller. Commissioners began arriving at 5:00 pm to set up for the Good Citizen Awards Reception and Ceremony. 20 individuals and groups were presented with this Award in front of the Wheaton City Council with many of their relatives and friends in attendance. F. Treasurer’s Report – Bobby McNeily. It was reported that our budget for the new fiscal year which began one May 1 would remain at our current level of $3,000. G. Media Coordinator – No report. VI. New Business: The election of officers was held for the new year. Rene moved and Vickie seconded that all candidates on the proposed Slate of Officers (see Exhibit A attached) be approved. The motion passed by a unanimous vote of the Commissioners. VII. Commissioners Comments: None VIII.
