CITY OF WHEATON COMMUNITY RELATIONS COMMISSION Minutes - Wednesday, July 1, 2015 I. Call to Order: by Chairman Ronnie Gillis at 7:05 p.m. II. Roll Call: Commission Members Present: Commission Members Absent: Ronnie Gillis Bobby McNeily Bill Balis Renee Webb Bill Gilbertson Dan Loftus Erik Miller Vickie Miller III. Citizens to be heard: None. IV. Approval of the minutes: from June 3, 2015. Bill B moved, Vickie seconded and the motion for approval carried. V. Continuing Business: A. Military Projects – Bill Gilbertson. Bill indicated that we would continue to support our adopted Infantry unit by collecting donations for gift bags and Christmas stockings for the needy families through our efforts during the Make a Difference Day event. B. Cultural Diversity – Dan Loftus. Dan updated us on the plans for the Wheaton World Tour: Celebrate Our Diversity in partnership with the Wheaton Public Library. The event is scheduled for Sunday, September 13, 2015 at Library Park West Campus overlooking Adams Park. Performing concerts already booked include the Daydreams, Community School or Arts, the Glenbard South Cappella Group and possibly the Turkish Cultural Center Music Group. The Park District will set up tables and tents to accommodate 10 groups to include Wheaton Downtown Assoc., Library Children’s Department, Sister Cities, PRC, Next Yoga, Wheaton CRC, Wheaton College Community School of Arts, Renew, Turkish Cultural Center and Sikh Community Center. Wheaton Downtown Assoc., will work with local restaurants to provide food options for the event. The Library will do a full, front page spread highlighting the event in their September Newsletter. CRC will create posters to be displayed in downtown Wheaton stores. C. Make a Difference Day – Bill Gilbertson. Bill indicated 9 of our 10 banner packs have been committed to from our current sponsors and he will be reviewing the banners to see if any changes or replacements will be required. He plans to get publicity for the event through the traditional City Newsletter via the City Website, by attending the annual PTA Presidents meeting and doing a Public Service Announcement through the City Communications Department. He would like to create a list of contacts from groups that could use volunteer help that would give citizens an opportunity to volunteer for a specific task. He would also like to contact previous Good Citizen Award Winners to see if they would like to get involved. D. Serve Illinois/Cities of Service – Renee Webb. No report. E. Good Citizens – Vickie Miller. No Report F. Treasurer’s Report – Bill Balis. Bill submitted a current YTD budget report indicating that expenses totaled $159.82 leaving an available balance of $2,840.18. G. Media Coordinator – Bobby McNeily. No report. VI. New Business: None -1- VII. Commissioners Comments: Ronnie announced that Desiray Young had resigned her Commission effective immediately. She will be missed. VIII. Adjournment: Vickie moved and Dan seconded a motion to adjourn at 8:15 p.m. Motion passed. -2-
