CITY OF WHEATON COMMUNITY RELATIONS COMMISSION Minutes - Wednesday, June 1, 2016 I. Call to Order: by Chairman Tony Lyons at 7:05 p.m. II. Roll Call: Commission Members Present: Commission Members Absent: Ronnie Gilles Gavin Engle Bill Gilbertson Bobby McNeily Dan Loftus Erik Miller Tony Lyons Vickie Miller Renee Webb III. Citizens to be heard: Jacob Horn, a Boy Scout, and his mother Josephine. Jacob attended the meeting to learn about community service for his troop. Bill Gilbertson gave them an overview of the various projects and events that the Community Relations Commission plans and implements for the City of Wheaton. IV. Approval of the minutes: from May 16, 2016. Ronnie moved, Renee seconded and the motion for approv- al carried. V. Continuing Business: A. Military Projects -- Bill Gilbertson. Bill was still awaiting on when the Vanguard Unit would be returning from Kuwait to make plans for a welcome home reception. Bill and Tony were planning to meet with John Duguay, Assistant City Manager, who has served with Commander Moon for some ideas to consider. Bill was also going to contact the staff at Fort Riley. B. Cultural Diversity – Dan Loftus.. Dan met with Betsy Adamowski and finalized the date for the Wheaton World Tour on August 20. Instead of focusing on entertainment they are considering a pet parade and fea- turing games at each of the cultural sites. There would be prizes awarded to the participants. The banners have been updated and would be displayed at the City Hall, Cosley Zoo, French Market, Library, Park Dis- trict Headquarters and Northside Pool. Posters will be placed in the downtown merchants and information on the City of Wheaton Website and the Library Newsletter. A Chat with the Mayor has been schedules. C. Make a Difference Day – Ronnie Gilles.—No report D. Serve Illinois/Cities of Service – Tony Lyons. Tony reported that while the State is not in a position to support this program at this time that he had been reviewing the Cities of Service Playbook and would be considering some suitable, service initiatives to pursue. Hopefully the State of Illinois will resolve the budget crisis soon. E. Good Citizens – Vickie Miller. — No report F. Treasurer’s Report—Erik Miller — No report G. Media Coordinator – Bobby McNeily.—No report VI. New Business: After reviewing the planning for the Wheaton World Tour Event and that there might not be enough Commissioners available to achieve a quorum it was felt that the meeting scheduled for July 6, 2016 wasn’t necessary. Ronnie moved to cancel the July Meeting, Renee seconded and the motion passed. VII. Commissioners Comments: None VIII. Adjournment: Ronnie moved, Bill seconded, a motion to adjourn at 7:45 p.m. Motion passed.
