CITY OF WHEATON COMMUNITY RELATIONS COMMISSION Minutes - Wednesday October 4, 2017 I. Call to Order: by Renee Webb at 7:01pm II. Roll Call: Commission Members Present Commission Members Absent Leslie Day Ronnie Gillis Vickie Miller Gail Forrest Bill Gilbertson Steve Limp Erik Miller Renee Webb Colleen Attwell III. Appointment of Secretary: Colleen Attwell appointed Secretary of Community Relations Commission. IV. Citizens to be heard: We were visited by Shayne Moore who is interested in joining our Commission. She indicated she would submit the necessary paperwork to the City Council seeking an appointment to the Community Relations Commission. The Commissioners unanimously endorsed Shayne joining the team and Renee Webb will send an email to Mayor Gresk and Sharon for recommendation. IV. Approval of the minutes: from August 2, 2017. Erik Miller moved, Steve Limp seconded and the motion for approval carried. V. Continuing Business: A. Military Projects – Bill Gilbertson — Bill and Steve have five boxes of books from the Wheaton Library Sale that they will be sending to Fort Riley. Also, Bill will begin coordinating holiday stocking needs for the military families. B. Cultural Diversity – Steve Limp — Nothing to report at this time C. Make a Difference Day – Renee Webb/Ronnie Gillis — The project for Make A Difference Day will be to collect donations on October 28, 2017 from 9am-noon at Wheaton City Hall to benefit DuPage PADS, People’s Resource Center and Midwest Shelter for Veterans. “Donuts for Donations” will provide hot apple cider, coffee and doughnuts for donors. The commission will arrive at 8:30am and deliver the donated items to the nonprofits afterward. The City Council made a Proclamation for Make A Difference Day on Monday, October 2, 2017. Bill and Steve will set up banners at sites across the city. Leslie, Steve and Shayne will approach their coffee contacts for donated coffee. Also on October 28th, we will support Scarce in their crayon recycling efforts. D. Good Citizens – Vickie Miller — Nothing to report at this time E. Treasurer’s Report—Erik Miller — No money has been spent yet this year. Erik reminded all event committee heads to develop an estimated budget for their specific event and send to him. F. Media Coordinator – Steve Limp — Steve will pursue additional outlets for promoting Make A Difference Day. VI. New Business: None. VII. Commissioners Comments: None VIII.
