Community Relation Commission Meeting Wednesday, August 5, 2020 7:00 – 8:00 pm Virtual Meeting I. Call to Order 7:04 II. Welcome everyone – all around introductions III. Roll Call – Present: Colleen Attwell, Katie Sivak, Salaha Jawaid, Larniecia Smith, Jennifer Sever, Rachel Bautista, Kay Frederick Absent: Krista Selvey, Kristen Santiago, Erica Nelson, Tony Asta IV. New Commissioners – We welcomed Jennifer Sever and Rachel Bautista to the commission. They both have strong marketing/ PR experience which will be helpful for the commission. Also, Pam Cavanaugh has resigned from the commission. V. Approval of Minutes – Katie Sivak motioned to approve January minutes. Kay Frederick seconded the motion. Motion approved by unanimous voice vote. VI. Business - Leadership Update/ Election of Officers – Katie Sivak motioned to accept officers as stated. Kay Frederick seconds. Slate of officers – Chair - Tony Asta, Vice Chair – Colleen Attwell, Treasurer – Saleha Jawaid, Secretary – Kristin Santiago. We discussed additional committee roles and key partnership liaisons. VII. Committee Updates – Colleen Attwell gave the Good Citizens Awards update. Certificates were mailed to winners this year due to COVID 19. We were unable to gather for the ceremony like years past when there were over 200 joined in celebration of the award winners. In spite of changes, the winners of the award felt honored. Tony Asta, chair of the Festival of Cultures, was not here to give update, but sent us a report. We are all looking forward to next year as this year’s festival was cancelled due to the pandemic. Colleen mentioned Tony has ideas around highlighting individual stories, music, performances, etc. of those involved in Festival of Cultures. More to come. Larniecia Smith gave the update on Make a Difference Day. She spoke of PRC, Wheaton Library, PADS, and Northern IL Food Bank. She feels this is an important year to make a difference and has ideas how to make this a strong event. Kay Frederick asked about the Make A Difference banner. VIII. Next meeting – September 2nd IX. Adjournment – Katie Sivak motioned to adjourn at 8pm, Saleha Jawaid seconded. Motion approved by unanimous voice vote.
