Community Relations Commission Meeting
Wednesday, March 3, 2021
7:00 – 8:30 pm
Virtual Meeting
I. Call to Order 7:03 pm.
II. Welcome everyone.
III. Roll Call – Present: Colleen Attwell, Katie Sivak, Erica Nelson, Larniecia Smith, Jennifer Sever,
Rachel Bautista, Kay Frederick, Krista Selvey, Laura Peccarelli and Tony Asta. Absent: Saleha
Jawaid. Guest: Bari Ericson from the Wheaton Public Library attended the meeting.
IV. Approval of Minutes – Laura made a motion to approve February 2021 minutes. Kay
seconded the motion. All members approved the motion.
V. Old Business
o Committee Updates –
Strategy/Planning Update – Meeting was held in February with Morgan from
DWA to discuss ways to partner on initiatives.
Black History Month – Wrap-up statistics
6 pieces of content promoted across COW, CUSD200, DWA, WPL, Wheaton
Moms & Wheaton to Go pages
743 likes, 102 comments, 87 shares across all content & promoted pages
History of Underground Railroad in Wheaton post was the most engaged
piece of WCRC Black History Month content
o Total Engagements: 311 likes, 11 comments, and 42 shares
o 3rd most shared piece of content on the COW FB page for Feb
o 4th most liked piece of content on the COW FB page for Feb
Cross-promotion of WPL Glenette Tilley Turner Event helped to increase
registrations by 200%

We Are Women Art Exhibit - Partnership with DuPage Art League, and
Downtown Wheaton Association
WPL/WLV/WCRC Co-Sponsored Events:
March 11th - Living History - Florence Nightingale (~120
registered)
March 25th - Marget Hamilton: Wheaton’s First Female Mayor
Good Citizens Awards – Important dates reminder: March 22 applications go
live, April 26 applications close, May 17 event. Jen has been working with Susan
Bishel on logos, flyers, social media plan, etc. New commission logo is ready and
will be used for Good Citizens. Application has been updated and sent to Susan
Bishel. Help is needed from commissioners to promote to adults and groups
especially and also to distribute posters when they are ready.
Festival of Cultures – no new update.
Make a Difference Day - Larniecia will be recruiting sub-committee members.
Krista and Kay are on sub-committee.
VI. New Business –
o Storage clean-up – Colleen, Erica and Larniecia will work on cleaning up commission
supplies in storage in the Annex per the City’s request.
o Wheaton Chamber of Commerce –Tony is speaking with the Chamber about building
our partnership. The Chamber has asked us to co-sponsor Frida Kahlo art exhibit in their
office by helping to secure artists. Tony made a motion to co-sponsor, Katie seconded.
All approved the motion.
VII. Adjournment – 8:31 pm. Katie motioned to adjourn, Laura seconded the motion. All
members approved the motion.
