COMMUNITY RELATIONS COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES WHEATON CITY HALL, 303 W WESLEY STREET, WHEATON, ILLINOIS 60187 Wednesday, April 22, 2026 Special Meeting 7:00 to 8:30 pm Conley Room, Wheaton City Hall Call to Order 7:10 pm II. Roll Call: Dave Sohmer, Kathy Bushong, Andrew McGady, John Gorup, Shauna Thorson Absent Michael Hodel, Tim March, Sharon Holtrop, Andrea Clayton iii. Approval of March 4, 2026 minutes Motion to approve minutes - Shauna Thorson Seconded by Kathy. Motion passed, None Opposed. IV. Old business Good Citizen Award Reviewed responsibilities for May 18th 250th anniversary Shauna and Dave met with WGN flags, 3O flags + Banner - about $5000 To attach you need a special clamp, 30 cost $8000 No funding from the city Can privately raise the money lf yes, we can get the money and do it. Need to raise the $13,000 Hometown heroes banners - must be self-funded, needs name and photo, and can be done quickly Could raise money for relatives. We can do flags and hometown hero banners on the same pole Next steps: Andrew to discuss with Susan Bishell to find out if there is an opportunity to reserve light poles. We should have the opportunity to get into this schedule. Motion: Seeding $1000 for hometown heroes program and going ahead with raising up to $15,000 for reusable flags, clamps flag poles, pennants for the French Market and Innovator tent Motion for Hometown Heros and flags by David, second by Andrew. Discussed adding dementia friendly status as welli New Business Michael Hodel resigned from the commission effective today, April 22. Sister City: More thinking needs to be done on the pen pal program. To be picked up next month Good Citizen Selections were made by commission. Motion to approve winners by David, second by Kathy.
