COMMUNITY RELATIONS COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES WHEATON CITY HALL, 303 W WESLEY STREET, WHEATON, ILLINOIS 60187 Wednesday, May 6, 2026 7:00 to 8:30 pm Gamon Room, Wheaton City Hall l. Call to Order: 7:03 PM ii. Roll Call: In Person: Dave Sohmer, Andrea Clayton, Andrew McGady, Kathy Bushong, Sharon Holtrop, Shauna Thorson, John Ger/up; Absent: Tim March. III. Approval of Minutes — a. Approval of minutes from Aprll 22, 2025 (special meeting). l. Motion to approve by Sharon, second by Kathy - all in favor; none opposed. IV. Old Business a. Good Citizen award planning — review of the responsibilities; 9 people won the award - 6 adults and 3 students. b. 250 Anniversary of America planning - Dave meeting with Nathan (Public Works) to discuss which lampposts can be used for the flags. Likely ready in June. Hometown Hero flags can be ready before Memorial Day. Andrew and Dave will follow up with Susan Bishell. 1. Motion to approve list of Hometown Hero's provided by Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans, Wheaton VFW, Wheaton Historical Commission & Cantigny by Andrew and second by Kathy — all in favor; none opposed. c. Autism Certified City or/and Autism Friendly City updates — will discuss this at a future meeting d. Sister City Update — Shauna to communicate with the Sister City (Wheaton Aston in England) to connect schools, classrooms and teachers. V. New Business a. Wheaton Block Party - Memorial Park is reserved for Saturday, September, 26th from 12—3PM. Idea to have it from 11230-230. Plan early for face painters, balloon person, petting zoo and magician. Maron band will be playing; possibly Matt Hayes again. Some people will reach out to food vendors. Dave will seek out donors in June. Discussed games, inflatables, old cars and emergency vehicles. Discussed using the same food vendors. Vl. Public Comment — none VII. Adjournment - motion to adjurn at 8:25PM a.
