MINUTES Wheaton Environmental Improvement Commission Tuesday, November 22, 2016 Roll Call: Chairman Ted Witte called the meeting to order at 7:30. Present were Shamili Ajgaonkar, Nancy Allured, Cathy Coleman, Brittany Drummond, Nancy Flynn, Kay McKeen, Christine Richarson, Allison Torrence, and Joseph Wilmarth Tyna. Absent were , Tony Majszak, Tony Pope, Hanna Self, and Bob Young. Minutes: Kay moved that we accept the minutes of the October meeting. Joe seconded. The minutes were approved. Public Comment: none Budget Report: no report Other Reports: 1. Bike Committee Report: Nancy Allured reported that DuPage County now has Sidney Kenyon handling bike and trail information. Kay suggested that the bike committee have a public service notice in the city newsletter when the time changes. Bike riders need to remember that it is dark earlier/later, and they need to make sure they have adequate lights if they are riding at these times. 2. Electronic Recycling Report: Tony Majszak, Tony Pope, and Joe worked the November collection. 374 cars came through, 274 fluorescent bulbs and about 10 liters of cooking oil were collected. 3. Adopt a Highway Report: Nancy Flynn reported that EIC completed four clean ups of their area this year. 4. Pumpkin Composting: Kay reported that 56 tons were collected in Illinois. Participants enjoyed the chance to win a pumpkin pie in the raffle. Upcoming Projects: 1. Electronic Recycling: December 9 crew chief will be Joe. January date may change. If it does, people will be needed on the first Saturday for the collection and the second Saturday to give people the new date. 2. Paper Shredding (April 8, 9-1): Kay reported that three trucks are reserved, and there will be a staging area for people to remove rubber band and plastic covers. Unfinished Business: 1. EIC Mission Statement: Shamili combined the two statements from last month into one. Brittany will work on a concise mission statement and a vision statement with the action points. 2. Street Lamp Banners/Feather Signs: Christine will contact Susan Bishel for help with a logo. This will be used in the feather signs and incorporated into the street lamp banner contest form. New Business: 1. Banner Funding: no action 2. Sharps Disposal Funding: Kay is still investigating. 3. One Earth Film Festival: COD is holding a sustainability film festival and will partner with this group for one of their films. She thought the commission might be interested in a similar partnership in the future. Adjournment: Nancy Allured moved that the meeting be adjourned. Nancy Flynn seconded. The meeting was adjourned at 8:50. The next regular EIC meeting is scheduled for January 24, 2017, at 7:30 P.M. Respectfully submitted, Cathy Coleman
